Another FDE support question...

Featured Replies

What setting can I change to adjust the suspension of the main landing gear??? Once again I'm doing an FDE upgrade and I have a problem on the ground when I turn the aircraft. She leans a little too much when turning left or right. What can be changed to stiffen this up a little???Thanks All... :-shy

In the case above it is the setting of 2.5 so whatever the existing setting in your aircraft's file, try increasing it to see if it helps. If it does not, it may be that the fuel in the wings is causing the leaning in which case, either there is too much fuel in the wings, or the fuel tanks are not set according to the real positions, or you'll just have to slow down. For example, I think I remember reading that the 747-400 should not be taxied at more than 15kts, and I found that when cornering it is best done at 10kts or less. You don't say what plane you are having trouble with, but large heavy planes will of course have more fuel in the wings so it is probably correct if yours is a large plane.

You da man Charlie!!! I've been waiting for this answer for quite some time....Thanks!!! :-jumpy

A pleasure to help! I don't know a lot by a long way, however I just happen to have been playing with the settings for the Meljet 747-400 to try to coordinate the appearance of the tilting bogies at lift off in spot view and it's not easy. This is having to take priority over the feel of the plane unfortunately, hopefully you won't be concerned with the appearance aspect if the bogies in your model are not animated but it might be worth checking what the wheels are doing when your plane lifts off. Also other adjustments to the static compression are involved, and every adjustment there then has to be compensated by the wheels height setting. I have been experimenting with the empty weight centre of gravity position and every adjustment there messes up the wheels appearance meaning I have to set them all over again. So it could take hours to get near the required result if your wheels are animated! Another adjustment worth checking is the wheels lateral position, if they are too far in, this could also cause the excessive tilting. Adjustments here should not affect other adjustments.

Howdy, here's a neat write-up by Tom Goodrick (in PDF format) that provides formulae for reducing bouncing and (to some extent) tilting, along with other FDE background. It was written quite a while ago but should still provide helpful information:http://www.flightsimdownloads.com/pub/FlightDynamics.pdf (only seems to work as a direct link)Cheers, Holger
