June 15, 200421 yr I have been working on a plane for quite a while now and found it would often crash fs9 under certain test conditions. What I also found was that if the crash occured during slew mode my joystick main entries in the cfg were completely wiped out. Luckily I had an older version with my favoured settings so I just pasted the section from there back into the current file. I had not realised until then that settings could be lost in this way so I now think it is a wise move for all of us to save any good working version of the cfg on a fairly regular basis to save the hassle of setting up the exact configurations all over again even if it means having to create a new cfg and then pasting in required sections from the copy. Hope this might save time for someone in the future.
June 15, 200421 yr Hi Charlie,Yep, good idea. :) I've already been doing this for a long time. I also make a backup of my Scenery.cfg file, although I think maybe Flight Simulator already makes one of this file.Cheers,Jim
June 15, 200421 yr Charlie,If you have a good working controller configuration:In the fs9.cfg file, in every section {Joystick_ .........} , below that line, add the line:LOCKED=1This prevent FS9 from ever messing with your controller settings anymore.Rob
June 15, 200421 yr Hi Rob, Thanks very much for that information! I'm going to do it straight away. Just one question if you don't mind: Would adding those lines stop me from being able to change joystick settings/assignments in the normal way?
June 15, 200421 yr Yes, that's the drawback :-)(but only for the sections you have added that line). So if you want to change something joystick-related from the menu:Exit FS, remove the locked=1 from the fs9.cfg, and start FS again to make the change. Rob
June 15, 200421 yr Thanks Rob! No problem, I'm not likely to want to change my settings often if ever, unless I use a different stick. And I'll know what to do if I do want to. Thanks again!
June 16, 200421 yr Try this. Copy fs9.cfg and rename it (say, testfs9.cfg). Make changes to the new one. Then, create a new fs9 shortcut, and use this in the shortcut's properties target entry:"C:Microsoft GamesFlight Simulator 9fs9.exe" "/CFG:C:documents and SettingsuserApplication DataMicrosoftfs9testfs9.cfg"where you fix up the paths to point to fs9.exe and the new testfs.cfg file. The /CFG: switch lets you load any tailored .cfg you want.scott s..
