Over the years, I found results so mixed.............in these different sims, that I just didn't care anymore. The perfect effects, would be pleasing though.

I'd start in the "soft field" departure mode, in which the stick/yoke is full back on the takeoff run. Some aircraft drag the tail through the asphalt. Some want to immediately roll side to side, as if their about to stall & cartwheel. Some do okay. But in reality, I still don't find desktop sims, good enough for consistent short field/soft field takeoffs............or tailwheel practice. In other words, the tailwheel practice won't qualify for a tailwheel endorsement.

@LAdamson: Yeah, I got excited to try some soft field take-offs but the Carenado Archer II with flaps down actually can't even pull the nosewheel off the ground until well after it can rotate with flaps up. :(

I am sure, as people really knowledgable with XP claim, that the sim supports the physics to handle most situations correctly, but I think sims shouldn't expect years of dedication from authors to get decent physics from the planes. I hope as time marches on, this side of simulators find improvement.

X-Plane's FD engine is powerful, of that I have no doubt, but on each new version of the simulator developers have to wait a long time for stability. In the end it certainly pays, as the guy who pushed me (I am glad he did...) into X-Plane10 told me regarding X-Plane9, which is the version he still uses with all of the good scenery and aircraft add-ons.

I look fwd for 10.30, maybe 10.40 because by that time the present version should have reached stability and the best add-ons can make it's way :-)

Until then, and even with the limitations, I am really enjoying X-Plane10
