Best to install on a seperate HD if you can (provided it is as fast as your primary HD)

Second best is to install it on another partition if you have one.

If not, install on your C drive, but not to the default in Microsoft games, install to a folder on the root drive of your PC.

Then I suggest you either shrink your primary volume and create another one D:\

or install to a new folder under C: root. (ie. C:\FSX or better yet C:\MSFS\FSX)

Crate the folder(s) yourself before the install, so all securities are properly set to your username, specially the ownership of the folder. And stay away of C:\Program Files; it will avoid Windows GAC, ACL problems, plus a lot of future trouble.

Once all your needs are installed, use the WD-1TB drive to keep a safe copy of FSX and a Windows image backup (rinse and repeat at least once a month)

Good luck

Thanks for the tips, I am going to create a folder in C: and install my scenery in my external drive

Happy to help.

Installing the scenery to the external drive might not be the best approach, as you said, it is 5400 rpm. so the access times t you scenery would be rather slow. (I don’t know if your USBs connectors are 2 or 3)

If I had to choose, I would install FSX to “C:\MSFS\FSX” SDK if available to “C:\MSFS\SDK”and scenery to “C:\MSFS\AddOnScenery”
