Should I upgrade from 560TI to 660Ti

Featured Replies

Question, I,m wondering if I would see much benifit with upgrading to a 660 TI from a 550 TI ? FSX runs smooth except in large cities mainly because I have AI traffic with Ultimate traffic 2 and I like to fly with AI on. I would like to move all sliders to the right at present there 3/4 that way. I have tweaked my system with forum help ( Kostas guide) . Money is not a huge concern just want to fly as smooth as possible. System specs are in my profile.

Thanks,

Unless you are sure you are GPU limited in those scenarios, upgrading to a 660Ti will provide no benefit. If you could monitor your GPU and CPU usage while in the FPS loss scenarios, tell me your findings.

Tom,

The scenario you describe needs more CPU grunt. But you already have a decent CPU. An Ivy Bridge @ the same clock or if you manage to clock your CPU a bit further could give you a tiny improvement. But I think Haswell is your best hope.

In the title it says you have a 560Ti but in your post it says 550Ti. I'm confused. If you have a 550Ti, the upgrade is definately worth it, if you have a 560Ti, erm... not entirely but it's your choice. I've had the 560Ti myself, then temporarily borrowed a 580, now own a 670 for a while now. I know that a 660Ti is nearly identical to a 670 and also especially in FSX there is no difference between the 670 and 680, so presumably a 660Ti will perform the same too. When I went from the 560Ti to a 580 there was no performance increase at all except when I increased the AA. As soon as a went to a 670 I did see a very slight improvement of maybe 5%-10%. For example where I used to get 35 FPS I now have 38 FPS. It's only a tiny improvement, but hey, it's something!

If you play other games too, a 660Ti is gonna be a worthy upgrade, if you only play FSX then I leave it up to you, just saying the difference is there but only very small. You might only see a big improvement if you run high AA levels, that's about it.

If you want to run more AI traffic, then a CPU running at a very high clockspeed will give you a very good improvement.
