How far out is weather set at a location?

Featured Replies

I am still trying to figure out the ASE, Radar Contact, UT2 combo and am wondering at what point will weather be set at a airport. In other words, if I am enroute to LAX for example, at what point would weather be set there from ASE in Standard or DWC mode? 50, 25, etc... ?? Reason I ask is because when I checked RC ATIS before the point that RC asks me to contact approach it gave me 7L and reported wind @ 157. ASE ATIS reported 247 wind direction. Anyways RC sent me down to 12000 which based on my direction of flight would mean that it was still going for 7L. If RC gave me 24R it would have wanted me at 11000. When I reached the point to contact approach it then gave me 24L to land which was correct based on wind being reported from ASE. With all that being said I have a few questions.

1) - Should I not get the ATIS from RC and just rely on ASE?

2) - At what point will weather be set at my destination in nm out .... 40 ... 30 ...20 ???

I know the RC guru's say to set UT2 spawn distance at 50nm but I dont think weather is set at the destination at that point thus telling AI to take off in the wrong direction. In my opinion the spawn distance should be set at a point after the destination weather is set and then they will take off in the right direction.

BTW I saw these results in standard mode so I am sure DWC is even more problematic.

SO all you using RC4, UT2, ASE/AS2012 what settings work for you? I am darn close to the point of giving up on ASE and calling it a loss for me so any help is welcome.

GREAT news !!! I can now say (for sure this time) that my issues with ASE have been resolved. For the sake of others that have issues like I had where no matter what I did (Standard or DWC) could I get AI to agree on which runway to use. I always got the right runway to land on but AI (UT2) once at my destination were departing/arriving at both ends of the runway. Here is my story... A long time ago I was helping out with the beta testing of UT2 and I was having a issue with simconnect at the time. The UT2 developers hooked me up with a stand alone installer for simconnect as for some reason mine was not working right for UT2 to work. I ran in and UT2 started to work properly but if I looked at my list of installed programs thru windows control panel it showed a separate simconnect. I never thought anything of it as all was working fine with FSX and all the addons I had at the time. Then I bought ASE and went thru many many hours for trouble shooting the issues it brought to my FSX. I spent ALOT of time trying to get DWC to work as I just couldnt stand the stutters that Standard mode produced. After a few ideas of things to try I was told Standard mode would be my best option to use with Radar Contact/ UT2/ ASE como. Well I then started using Standard mode and still the same problems were happening (AI all over the place at my destination) This made me start to wonder about this other simconnect I installed awhile back. So I uninstalled it along with SP2 for FSX. I then did a re-install just incase of FSX SP1, started FSX to let it accept the changes, then installed my FSX SP2. I then fired up FSX and low and behold my UT2 was working without having to install the other simconnect the UT2 guys gave me. I then loaded up a flight using ASE with DWC using a flight into LAX which ALWAYS would be haywire at the destination. This time was different... The AI were all performing properly takeing off and landing just as they should using the correct runways. Well seeing as I have thought several times in the past that it was fixed I over the last few days have done LAX to DFW, LAS to LAX (several times), ATL to DFW, LOWI to EGLL, and KTPA to KFLL ALL without errors with destination winds or AI direction.

Long story short, I firmly believe this other simconnect I had installed was causing conflict between ASE/Radar Contact/UT2. Now that I only have one (the one that gets installed with FSX SP2) I am once again enjoying FSX while using Radar Contact/ASE/UT2. The only issue I had doing this was the ground textures got a bit mucked up. I use UTX/GEX/SceneryTech/PNW. I was able to get that sorted out by running the UTX setup tools and deselecting and reselecting SceneryTech in my scenery layering.

Good to hear. So many issues with simconnect and FSUIPC. Not dogging FSUIPC or anything but I actually found my wx is smoother using V4.754. I kept updating with the latest dll's and found the wx to be a little sticky and I would have to refresh it a few times to get proper conditions. I was almost pulling out what is left of my hair over this because I had tested the SP for a few weeks before it was released. not remembering (due to lack of sleep) I had been updating FSUIPC in incremental steps along the way.

Too sum it up I guess If we all ran the same stuff on the same settings on the same hardware we wouldnt have any issues. Too many infinites to really hit the nail on the head.

Hi

I also have seen the weather get stuck very often and have to refresh to get the weather as in the report and map inside AS2012. Have 4.820.

Where can I get V4.754?

I do have some older versions but the closest to yours I have is 4.751. Really would like to try that one to see what happens.

Just got 4.852 (latest), will try it.

In the past I recall that weather changed more often then now by itself.

Looks like 4.852 did it. Weather no longer stuck, changed now and then during the flight. Lots of different clouds slowly changing and at different altitudes.

Only problem still around is the arrival weather, had to refresh to get the same as in report and on map.
