August 30, 201213 yr Maybe this is the wrong place to ask this question, but: Is there a fix for the "Whiteout" mission to work properly with ORBX PNW? this is what happened to me, when I tried it: I took off a t Cascade Locks, landed at Trout lake, and tokk off again; everything worked just fine, but when I tried to land at Mount St. Helens (WN10), it seems that in the ORBX scenery the airfield has been moved a bit, and thus it's impossible to trigger the people boarding the plane. I tried various things such as landing at another place (of the actual landing strip), taxiing close to the waiting car or even landing nearly on the car, but without success, most of the time I even crashed the Cessna. Thanks for any help Flo Florian
August 30, 201213 yr I had a similar issue with this mission, and I don't even have any scenery / addons installed. I had saved the game just before the landing where you'd pickup the people from the car. When I landed and parked next to the car nothing happened. I just reloaded from the last save point and I was okay after that. Could you give that a try? I don't think it's necessary to land close to the car.
August 30, 201213 yr Author Well, thanks for the tip, but I've tried starting from a saved point quite a few times, without any effect. And yeah, you're right, it's not necessary to land close to that car. But as I stated in the first post, it seems that ORBX has moved the landing strip/MS misplaced it, and thus the car is at least a hundret meters away from the new strip location, and landing closer to the car (where I'm supposed to land) is nearly impossible now due to the trees. I guess, I'll have to switch to default FSX to land and take off again, and switch back to ORBX terrain when airborne and cleared all the obstacles. Florian
August 30, 201213 yr I found this thread where others were having the same problem. Not sure if they were using addon scenery or not. I certainly wasn't. One of the people in that thread said he solved it by landing from the other direction. Frankly it sounds a bit strange to me, but you never know... I agree, I think you're best off turning off the addon scenery temporarily. Let us know how it went. Good luck.
August 30, 201213 yr Author Thanks for your help, I just did a little research myself. It seems there ain't too many people out there having this problem, and in a thread over at Aerosoft they recommended what I regarded the only possible solution: Switching FSX to default before landing and back to ORBX after TO. The only problem with that would be that I have to exit FSX before dis-/enabling ORBX, which would definitely waste time. Florian
August 30, 201213 yr No problem, mate. :-) Strange. I found quite a few threads with people saying in the Whiteout mission they can't seem to pick up the people in the car. Not sure if it's add-on related for those people. Even I had the problem and mine is definitely not add-on related as I don't have any add-ons. However, it's not the first time I hear of add-on scenery interfering with the FSX missions. Disabling scenery add-on would definitely be worth a try.
August 30, 201213 yr Author From what I remember, that specific one wasn't one of the easy-to-complete missions for me back then, when I didn't have PNW installed, either. I guess, that, in order to trigger the people to board the plane, you have to touch down very preciseon that narrow runway, which is kinda hard to do in those conditions, anyway. I'll report back as soon as I have completed that mission, which may take a little, because I don't expect to have time for simming till Monday. Thanks so far Flo Florian
August 30, 201213 yr Good luck to you, mate. Glad to see there's others still doing the missions. I think they are a lot of fun and for me they are an excellent way of becoming acquainted with FSX. I've done almost all missions with prop. planes but none with gliders or helicopters. And barely any of the missions with (fighter) jets. I do try to get all the "extra" rewards available in the missions. How are you getting along? Regards, Willem
August 30, 201213 yr Author Well, on my old rig I've accomplished all of the prop/jet missions plus some of the chopper missions, e.g. the Kwazulu, the Tokio Executive (which is one of my favorites, and really thrilling) and most of the fighter missions. I've also done the glider missions, but didn't really like them that much. On my new rig, however, I've installed some more scenery and more complex aircraft, which my old one couldn't handle that well, so I was kinda stuck with flying either VFR in some Cessnas and Mooneys, or in the 737, 757 and MD-11. But after watching "Top Gun" and "Sky Fighters", I thought I'd try that IMC carrier landing mission again, which didn't work all that well, but I got back to the good old missions again. Florian
September 10, 201213 yr Author If someone's interested: I saved the flight 1nm before WN10, disabled FTX, landed in WN10, passengers boarded, and I took off. After that, I re-enabled FTX, and it worked great for me. And the loss of time was less than 5 minutes. :yahoo: Florian
January 9, 201313 yr Just wanted to add my experience. I ran into the same problem. The runways (and by extension, the trigger areas) are moved with the FTX terrain. I had to resort to using the mission pointer to reallize that the trigger point for taking off from trout lake was not at all on the runway. Then when I flew into WN10, the runway wasn't just in the wrong spot, it was completely invisible! I tried about 5 times before I searched and found this thread. I had been thinking it was the PNW addon, but just didn't think to switch to FSX default. Did that last night and suddenly I could actually see the runways and complete the mission. Thanks a lot guys!
