September 10, 201213 yr Hello, I tried reinstalling my original cirrus_overcast texture, which I kept in back_up since I installed FSX for the first time, but this strange layer above the aircraft did not go away, as you can see in the first picture. When I changed the Max Surface Visibility from 20 to 80 miles, the layer disappeared and all looked well (second picture). In the spy window, there was never a cloud layer above 12000 ft. The pictures were taken at 20000 ft. Strange is also that when I consult ATIS in PFE (my ATC program),With each flight, it mentions: scattered at 42700 ft. The third picture shows my cirrus textures in the FSX texture folder. Except for the overcast textures, all other are REX Essentials HiRes. Can somebody point out to me what I'm doing wrong here? Jos
September 10, 201213 yr Commercial Member This is a problem with your previous weather engine. Please see the following topic in our Flight1 forum for a solution. Basically you must recover the bitmap and turn off all your fog, mist and haze effects in REX or ActiveSky etc. they are all just ruining the weather. When you set our max surface vis to 128km all you are doing is masking the effect, not overcoming the problem. If you consult the following topic in our Flight1 forum this should help to put your system right. [sOLVED] Layer of clouds that wont go away.... I have no idea about the ATIS program you are using but a cloud up at 42,700 feet sounds like cirrus to me, why on earth this should be reported in any ATIS is beyond me, cirrus aren't even reported in METARs, they're generally not very important for everyday flying. If after consulting the above forum you still have a problem just post something there and plenty of folk will help you. Make sure you turn off all those effects in your REX or AS texture package though. Regards Stephen P.S. Please note, the cloud layer heights and depths in our spy window are given in metres not feet. If you still have problems after consulting the forum then email me and I will send you another bitmap.
September 10, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi Jos After turning off all your fog, haze, and visibility effects in your previous engine and replaced the faulty bitmap (the backup one in AS could also be the wrong backup), let us know how you get on and what solution, if different from the above, was needed to get rid of this hangover effect. We will make sure others are warned and advised accordingly. Good luck. Regards Stephen
September 10, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi Jos A new revelation described on our Flight1 forum. The bitmap you have restored is probably not the original. We've all been fooled into a false sense of security by AS. I am currently discussing the problem with Nick and will come up with a once and for all fix soon. Stay posted, but also check out our Flight1 forum. Regards Stephen
September 10, 201213 yr Well, according to the screenshot, the size and date of the cirrus_overcast3.bmp file look like default FSX to me. Perhaps it is something else  EDIT ; please disregard. September 10, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi Jean-Paul We'll soon find a solution. I can't recreate the annoying cloud effect on my system but I've never installed the problematic images. I just have the REX HD ones installed. I'll report back soon. Regards Stephen
September 11, 201213 yr Commercial Member FSX/P3D Texture problem solved ... N.B. This is NOT an OpusFSX fault, we are just providing a solution to a common problem as usual !!! We have created our own assortment of bitmap masks and tried them all out using our own Photoshop package. We will include these bitmaps within our installation from now on and automatically copy them to the appropriate FSX/P3D texture folder. There will be no conflicts with FSX or other packages since we've given our files names such as, cirrus_overcast03_Opus_512.bmp cirrus_overcast03_Opus_1024.bmp We have supplied two file sizes just in case. Anyone experiencing the annoying 'sky fog' or 'imoveable overhead cloud of doom' created by FSX (not Opus) can simply rename their existing 03 texture bitmap and then truncate one of our our named files to cirrus_overcast03.bmp. For the time being, I will see about posting the bitmap(s) on our downloads page. No copyright breaches of course because we've created our own files from scratch in Photoshop. I will also post a definitive answer to the Sky Fog texture problem along with the quick fix on our Flight1 forum tomorrow (or later today I should say), that way people will not have to trawl through pages of posts to look for the answer. Please note, we still recommend disabling all haze, fog, and visibility effects within third-party texture packages. Regards Stephen
September 25, 201213 yr Gentlemen, Could someone please specify the exact folder path that the above mentioned default cirrus_overcast03.bmp is supposed to reside in within the FSX installation. I can't seem to locate it in my particular installation.
September 25, 201213 yr Commercial Member If your system has a faulty bitmap file it will be quite obvious, there will be a thick cloud hovering above you wherever you fly. This is not an OpusFSX problem, we have just provided a solution to a problem that occasionally occurs on some systems due to a corrupt or faulty cirrus overcast bitmap mask file in the FSX/P3D Texture folder. If your system suffers from this problem then please follow the instructions below for the cure. Make sure you have disabled your 3rd party weather engines and in addition disabled/removed all their visibility, haze and fog effects. You must replace the cirrus_overcast03.bmp file within your flight simulator's Texture folder as follows, 1. Navigate to your simulator's texture folder, either <FSX>\Texture or <Prepar3D>\Texture 2. Rename your cirrus_overcast03.bmp file to cirrus_overcast03_foggy.bmp. 3. Truncate our cirrus_overcast03_Opus_1024.bmp filename to cirrus_overcast03.bmp. 4. Restart your FSX or P3D simulator. If you still have problems then repeat the above exercise using our 512 bitmap. If you are not using the OpusFSX Beta version then you will have to download the replacemnt bitmap file from our website (downloads page) and copy it to your textures folder manually. Regards Cheryl
