Where does scenery.cfg really belong?

Recommended Posts

Mine appears to be here : C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\FSX\

I've seen posts saying its in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSXProgramData , but that is definately not the case!

Why do people report this being in like 800 locations>?

I am asking this because I am having problems with utilities such as MakeRwys.exe not picking up on changes in my C:\FSX\Addon Scenery\scenery\

which is the folder in the FSX install location that has some bgl files with updated scenery. This scenery works fine in FSX, but these 3rd party FSX utilities have problems.

So to end this question once and for all, where does the official scenery.cfg belong?

Here is what I have:

C:\FSX (my FSX install directory)

C:\Users\Stubs\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX (Folder with FSX.CFG and simconnect.xml)

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX (folder with scenery.cfg) (C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\FSX is a shortcut to this same folder)

That's the default scenery.cfg. It should never be modified or deleted. The one located in C:\Program Data\Microsoft\FSX is the working scenery.cfg (in your OP you have FSXProgramData at the end and that does not exist). This is if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7. For XP the locations are different. There's a program called Scenery Config Editor v 1.1.1 that you can download and it will check your working scenery.cfg for errors plus you can modify or disable/enable scenery or delete scenery areas.

Best regards,

Jim
