3rd monitor not recognized

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm trying to setup a 3 moniter display but can only get 2 monitors recognized by my system

I have an AMD Radeon HD 7950 3Gb with 2x mini DisplayPort 1x HDMI and 1x DVi ports. I can only get a combination of any 2 ports to work at any one time using either the normal windows monitor setup or Catalyst Control Center.

The attached images below show only 2 monitors selected and the 3rd greyed out and am unable to extend the desktop to it or save it.

All three monitors are the same Dell E207WFP's and all drivers are up to date

Apart from going for the expensive option of getting a Matrox TripleHead2Go, I'm open to any suggestions :give_rose:

Thanks in advance,

Mike

2x mini DisplayPort 1x HDMI and 1x DVi ports.

IIRC, you *must* use 2X DVI and ONE display port for EyeFinity to work properly. Also, the display port adapter *might* have to be active rather than passive.

Hmmm.. thats a bit hard when the card only has one DVI port :).

Well the monitor is recognised but not activated.

What other options are listed in that "Multiple Displays" drop down list?

Have you tried just shuffling the positions of the monitors around a bit in that Windows screen resolution setup page? Sometimes this can bring one to life.

Hmmm. Looks like I'll have to go down the TripleHead2Go route as I have only 1xDVi port.

I have had a look on the AMD forum because the spec of my card says it supports up to 4 displays, but how it's done is still a big question mark.

Thanks for the suggestions though,

Mike

It would be much more practical to sell that 7950 and upgrade to a more viable solution for 3 display outputs. A GTX670 or 680 would make much more sense.

Sorry Ben thats just wrong.

The standard 7950 has just the one DVI port and does Eyefinity just fine.

I never stated that I was absolutely confident in my statement...

If the monitors don't have Display ports, all you need is 2 'Active' DP-DVI adaptors.

For the 7950 use.

1 x DVI.

2 x Display ports, with active adaptors, dp-dvi. Ben is correct they must be 'Active' for 3 screens.

You may be using a Passive adaptor on the display port, which only supports 2 screens.

I've just sent back the two do-dvi adapters, turns out that hey were passive, and ordered two active ones. This should resolve the problem, I'll post when they arrive and fitted.

Sorted! New active adaptors arrived, installed and bish bash bosh all working well. Just got to make a few adjustments with Eyefinity and I'm a happy bunny :-)

:p0504: Glad to hear it's working, as ATI claim, you can now have a separate 4th monitor from the HDMI output.

happy flying.
