The X79 chipset is quad channel memory not triple channel. I'd be careful and make sure you're getting compatible components. (If triple channel is supported then my mistake.. but why do that) I think the X79 based I7 systems are probably overkill for what you're trying to accomplish. That said, it all depends on how much $$ you are willing to spend.
