The Beavers that I have found in the Library are all great. I should mention a thank you for the time these people take to provide us with the wonderful free ware.I have searched (as in beaver and fs2004 org aircraft). I have tried to install them all. I finally got them to work. The only issue is that the leaver on the yoke that is assigned to the prop pitch (the one that works for this on all the other like type aircraft) however in all of the beavers I have gotten from the AVSIM Library (and as mentioned above I D/L "em" all, under original aircraft for fs 2004) the

Like you, I was inspired to revisit my freeware Beaver collection when this new Aerosoft one came out.I traced three basic models, by Fred Banting, Steven Grant and John Woodward. I have three panels, by Fred Choate, Yannick Lavigne and Larry Smith. There are a couple of good soundsets. The Grant model did have a VC, but he removed it as he didn't think it was up to par. John Woodward's does have a VC ... in fact it has no 2D panel. However, it's not for me. Why? Because the Lavigne and Smith 2D panels, with their internal views, are some of the best panels ever made for flight simulator. They're just lovely. Fred's is good too, but comes in third IMHO, and has no views. So my choice for FS2004 is Steven Grant's aircraft with the Lavigne or Smith panels. Fantastic.I don't own the Aerosoft bird, but it really doesn't appear to stack up to this freeware work. More liveries, perhaps, and I can't judge the airfile, but those panels .... rushed work, methinks. To stick the default DC3 gauges and radios in an expensive payware plane is a bit naughty.Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontEDIT: Dang, I got so carried away with my yarning on about my own preferences that I forgot your question. My prop, throttle and mix levers all work on the Grant model with the Lavigne or Smith panels. John Woodward's has gone to the back of my hangar for now so I can't answer for that one. Are you using a yoke? Sure you haven't lost the assignment or something?http://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

Mark,Would you please list the plane and panel name as it would need to listed in the search box of the Library on this site. I am pretty sure of the plane you mention but not so much on the panel.I don

Hey, Brent.First thanks for your time to try and help.In the event I have major (Brian Damage) and or cppu learning curve woes, is there a way (and I mean nothing that takes a bunch of time) to post a sreen shot and or any other visual. I tried you method to the best of my knowhow with no success. All this means is a may be beyond (this old mans as in "before all the great computer days', LOL).I thank you for your (and others) efforts.Take care.Mark.

Somehow I was oblivious of this even though I have flown in birds that are set up just the way you say Bill. Well, yesterday I uploaded a config file that makes a 2D Panel by Jean-Pierre Langer and Arne Bartels based on photos by Larry Smith compatible with FS2004 and John L. Woodward's Beaver aircrafts. After seeing your post here Bill I worked on making it so my config file enables the 2D sideviews and still have John L. Woodwards Virtual Cockpit with no detriment to the 2D sideviews. Success! I'm uploading it here in just a few minutes. ;-)I hope you end up coming back and seeing this post Mark! :-sun1Cheers,Jim

Thanks, Jim, and Bill,Yes, I am aware of that trick - although thanks for posting, Bill, because many who ask "how do I get rid of this and that VC?" will appreciate it - but my point was, with every respect to John Woodward, that I just don't personally like his VC cockpit. It's not a matter of the 2D views overlaying for me, it's just that I prefer to use them in this case and like the open view when looking around in the Bush in VC mode.So it's really down to which aircraft you prefer to fly, I guess. I have not had a proper chance to compare all the airfiles in FS2004 or even look at the externals in too much detail; suffice to say, we've plenty of toys to play with!Kingairvois ... hope you're back here too so see Jim's note about that cockpit - that's one of the two to which I referred and it is just drop dead gorgeous. Make sure you grab that. You'll find everything else in the library for the Beaver by just hunting on 'Beaver' , 'DHC-2', 'Fred Banting', 'Steven Grant' or 'John Woodward'. Good luck, they're all worth it.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

I hope this helps. I may have made a bit of a mess, so I wanted to copy/paste the instructions for what I hope is the correct panel for the 2 beaver. Here they are: (I hope,LOL)This file is made for use with the Dir_Gyro_panel.zip file!!!Hello,Here is a panel.cfg file I made to make the DHC-2 Beaver 2D panel by Jean-Pierre Langer and Arne Bartelsbased on photos by Larry Smith, compatible with FS2004 and John L. Woodward's Beaver aircrafts. The only thing about the FS2002 panel was not compatible with FS2004 was the gpsmap195.gau file andthe entry for it in the panel.cfg file. I made my FS2004 compatible panel.cfg file for folks who are not familiarwith the vagaries of config files.I also upgraded the virtual cockpit parameters from pixel_size=512,512 to pixel_size=1024,1024 for bettergauge sharpness in the virtual cockpit. If you are running a fairly outdated system and find that performancehas declined in the virtual cockpit from John Woodward's default Beaver then you may want to changethese back to pixel_size=512,512 in the [VCockpitXX] sections in my panel.cfg file.Installation:Required files from the Avsim Library:bvr_pnls.zip - Flight Simulator 2002 - Panelsbeaver_wheels_v2.zip - Flight Simulator 2004 - Original Aircraft- and/or -beaver_floats_v2.zip - Flight Simulator 2004 - Original AircraftOpen up the 'bvr_pnls.zip' file with WinZip. Read the Readme.txt file by Jean-Pierre Langer. My panel.cfg is made for the embedded Dir_Gyro_panel.zip file contained therein.Install the Gauges.zip, Common_panel.zip and then the Dir_Gyro_panel.zip. Then just use my panel.cfg filein place of the one that was contained in Dir_Gyro_panel.zip and you should be all set.Cheers,Jimmy [email protected]: I am not responsible for any damage done either real or percieved by the use of this file. What I am getting at is I am (you know "a Backwards") with knowing the correct steps.Agian, I have been a major hemroid here. Thus any suggestions and help are welcome, (hell, they are needed, LOL).I hope one day to be able to re-pay as Milton Shupe has said and has delivered with his team.Agian, if someone is willing to use Teamspeak (I was told to mention this to help from a keyboard marathon). In any event I sure ro appreciate any assistace. I guess at this point ("I cannot see the forest for the trees").Agian a welcommed thank you in advance.Mark.("Everbody loves the beaver").

Hello Mark,Yes, that is the file I made that Mark 'Dark Moment' Beaumont was talking about in his reply to you. I wish I could offer you a complete package too. But all I did is just make the the configuration file, which doesn't make me privy to including all the other authors work. There are many files available that require other files. They may be kind of a pain at first but they are usually worth it in the end.I give instructions on installing it as you can see, but I will try and give you some extended instructions here that will hopefully help you out.First, you need to get John L. Woodwards DeHavilland DCH2 Beaver and the FS2002 Beaver Panel. So download beaver_wheels_v2.zip and bvr_pnls.zip from the Avsim file library. You can search for these filenames at http://library.avsim.net/extsearch.phpOpen up beaver_wheels_v2.zip with WinZip.Now, while making sure that you have the WinZip option 'Use folder names' checked simply unzip it to your 'Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9Aircraft' folder. Now open up bvr_pnls.zip with WinZip. There are some embedded .zip files contained inside it. Double-click on the (embedded) 'Gauges.zip' file and it will open up in a second instance of WinZip. While making sure that you have the WinZip option 'Use folder names' checked unzip the gauges to your 'Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9' folder. Now close out that instance of WinZip and the bvr_pnls.zip should still be open. Double-click on 'Common_panel.zip' and a second instance of WiZip come up with this file open. Unzip this to a temporary folder such as C:Temporary. I hope you know how to make a Temporary folder. Ok, after you have unzipped the contents to the Temporary folder then go into the Temporary folder and you should see another folder (subfolder) in there named 'Common_panel'. Go into the Common_Panel subfolder and then highlight a file with your mouse. Press CTRL-A on your keyboard. All the files in there should now be highlighted. Now press CTRL-X on your keyboard. Now go to the folder that contains John Woodward's Beaver...'Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9AircraftDeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver_Wheels'There will be 4 subfolders in there. Go into the 'Panel' subfolder and press CTRL-V on your keyboard. This should paste in all the files from the 'Common_panel' folder that were were in just a few moments ago.Close the 'Common_panel.zip' instance of WinZip. The bvr_pnls.zip instance of WinZip should still be open. Double-click on the 'Dir_Gyro_panel.zip' file in Winzip. Unzip this to your C:Temporary folder. Go into your C:Temporary folder and you should see a 'Dir_Gyro_panel' subfolder. Go into that subfolder and highlight a file. Press CTRL-A on your keyboard. Then press CTRL-X on your keyboard. Now go back to your 'Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9AircraftDeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver_Wheels' folder. Go into the 'Panel' subfolder in there. Press CTRL-V on your keyboard. You should get prompted about whether or not you want to 'Replace the existing file' panel.cfg. Click 'No'.Now, close out the 'Dir_Gyro_panel.zip' instance of WinZip. Go to wherever it is that you downloaded my file.... 'bvr_pnls_fs9_side_views_config.zip'. Double-click on it and it should open up in WinZip. Single-click on the 'panel.cfg' and the file should be highlighted in WinZip. Unzip it to your Temporary folder. Go to your Temporary folder. Click on the panel.cfg file and it should be highlighted. Press CTRL-X. Now go your 'Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9AircraftDeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver_Wheels' folder. Go into the 'Panel' subfolder in there. Press CTRL-V on your keyboard. You should get prompted about whether or not you want to 'Replace the existing file'. Click 'Yes' so that my 'panel.cfg' file will overwrite the existing file. You must click 'Yes' in this step! That's it. Now you should be able to enjoy John L. Woodwards DHC-2 Beaver with the 2D Panel and 2D sideviews and still have John's Virtual cockpit.Hope that helps,Jimmy Richards

Thanks Jimmy for your excellent contribution. I was hoping someone would eventually do this.It case anyone is wondering, I was not able to include a 2d panel with the airplane. Fred Banting kindly gave me permission to use his gauges and soundfile, but the panel bitmaps were done by someone else for Fred's use only so he could not grant permission to use them.John Woodward

Hi John!Sure thing, you're welcome. Thank you for the marvelous DHC-2 Beaver! I posted some screeshots of it flying around Simflyers KPHX in the screenshot forum the other day. ;) Today I posted a screenshot of the VC with shots of the 2D panel and views too trying to advertise the little panel.cfg I did and your Beaver. Here it is if you or anyone wants to see 'em...http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...&mesg_id=146507Someone make a comment in there and bump it up! :-hahCheers,Jim
