FSX Installation

Featured Replies

Hey to one and all

A long term user of FSX but I am looking to establish a wide view installation across two PCs.

However, before I have even got that far I have come across something really curious.

As mentioned I now have two PC's, both of which have recently had (clean) installations of windows 7 (Home Premium)

No other software has been installed at present, execpt that of things like adobe reader.

To all intense and purposes both installations are a mirror of one another at this time

Following well established processes, I have just installed FSX (Deluxe/Accel) on both machines in exactly the same way. Entered the keys as required and activated. Made sure that relevent boxes were checked.

It would seem that both installations are identical (checked with vice versa pro) AND YET............

... On one PC the desktop "shortcut" program icon has been installed AND on the other it has not.

.... On the PC without the desktop "shortcut" program icon, one has been installed in the "games" folder.

.... On the PC with a desktop "shortcut" program icon, "shortcut" icons (for the read me file, program icon and fsinsider web page) have also been installed within a microsoft fsx sub-folder within the "microsoft games" folder but nothing in the "games" folder.

My question is whether any of this makes any difference?

Can I ignore this, or am I just storing up trouble for later if I do not find out the reason why, i.e. what else is different?

Kind Regards

Stuart

The shortcut options are asked during installation. I would assume you missed the options during the setup. In any case it does not matter. If you want a shortcut on your desktop you can always go to the FSX main folder, right click on FSX.exe, then click on send to desktop. An icon will be made on your desktop. You can then drag the icon to the task bar on the bottom of the screen and it will make a copy of the icon there. You can also drag it into the Menu area and save a link in there. I just have the icon in the task bar on the bottom of the desktop screen. Deleted all the others.

Best regards,

Jim

Many thanks Jim, much appreciated.

I understand how I can get the icon on my desktop, just wanted to make sure the different installation between the two PCs was not going to cause me issues or problems later on.

I did wonder if I had missed the options, so I unistalled and re-installed making sure the desktop options box was ticked.

But to no avail. Same result.

Not to worry but again many thanks for taking the time to respond.

KInd Regards

Stuart

Strange that one gave you the option and the other install did not. In any case, it will not affect game play. Go Fly!

Best regards,

Jim
