July 2, 200421 yr Oh yeah? Well be glad you're not from new zealand, the last time I was in auckland, they ran around singing "alTEMitir" sort of like those South Africans....As an Australian, I had to throw this into the thread.Cheers.
July 2, 200421 yr I doubt all these characters will come through... l-tm-troh well... How about asking Webster?http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book...timeter&x=0&y=0They actually include both, including spoken pronounciations.//Ryan

July 2, 200421 yr Guys, you're totally right! English is the least sense-making language in the world. Yet it's my favorite, which of course doesn't make sense (grin)!Be well!Jaap Verduijn.
July 2, 200421 yr LOL, Jaap:Good one.I guess for the same reason we don't measure speed with a SPEED-o-meter. We use a spee-DOM-eter here in the U.S.Wilson
July 2, 200421 yr And a ter-MOM-eter. :-)Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing
July 2, 200421 yr When the European edition of FS2006 comes out we'll probably be saying "QNH" and talking millibars too! :+
July 2, 200421 yr Grin! I don't really care whether they say alTIMeter, ALtiMEEter or QNH, but I can't help wondering why so many companies in one of the most advanced industries in the world still use paleozoic measuring units...Be well!Jaap Verduijn.
July 2, 200421 yr Commercial Member Did you know "Pronunciation" is one of the most mispronounced words? (and misspelled it seems too) :) Fermin Fernandez FSWidgets Developer Melbourne, Australia (UTC+10)
July 3, 200421 yr Well there you go then - no argument. I remember when I played The Pirate King by G&S I had a wonderful bit of patter with the Major General where we mix up the words often and orphan. I suppose we Brits have learned to laugh at the ######isation of the English language because we so orphan do it ourselves.:-violin
