Active Runway Lists

Featured Replies

does anyone know where i can find a list of the active runways for the major airports in fs2002...i use a program to plan my flights and i have to input the departure and arrival runways but i never know which one to select so if anyone has any idea how to find the active runway very easily let me know....thankstboutain

What program are you using ? Active runway's may not allway's be the best one to land on. I use FSnav snd charts to figure out what would be the best runway to land on.Scott

I use FSNav to plan my flights and i have to know the departure and arrival runways before i take off and if i dont use the active runway i cant get ATC to clear me to land becasue i will never be lined up with the runway that they specify me to land at....i just want to know if there is a list of active runways that exists somewhere

Not a real pilot here but I Think it works this way in real life:1. When you plan a flight, you mostly plan the trip from origin airport to destination airport. period.2. After you've done that, you need a big picture of the weather out there, so you can ASSUME what the departing and landing direction would be.3. you listen to ATIS, then, if you have your charts ready, can plan a DP (Departure procedure) ** some of them are rwy dependent, so that's the point of waiting here.4. YOu go out and start the route, somewhere along the route ATC clears you for an approach, so if you have your charts you can do the approach or request vectors, and then ATC will decide what runway they give you to land. There is no real point in knowing the Actives at the airports, cause they change with the wind direction...You can have a rough stimate when departing, but only ATC will know for sure the exact runway they are giving you to land.Listen to the ATC, they will vector you to land; it does not matter that your plan does not exactly align with the active, they will give you clearance to do a pattern (like circle the Runway) and land if appropriate, or they will give you vectors that will most likely align you to a certain degree with the active.

I dont fly with Winds so the Actives never change and i always fly VFR...maybe its time to get rid of the automatic flying with VFR and start some IFR....

Ok so no one knows if such a list exists...like one that gives a list of the default active runways for fs2002, or a way to easily find out with one is active for a certain airport?

In general, with FS2002, the active runway is always going to be the longest runway available. As to which end is the default one that will be used, I don't know of any table/list of that out there. You could start yourself at that airport, listen to ATIS, and then go back to your original... Not the prettiest solution, but it *would* work and would give you answers faster than asking around here has. :)

Check here in the fs2002 miscellaneous directory for a file that has a list of active runways for the Caribbean, Europe, and North America. It roughly has about 400+ of the major airports listed. I'll be working on the rest within the next few weeks, and when I'm done I'll post them. Outlaw2001it

If your using FSnav it will show you all runways. The active is the one being used according to the wind direction.ATIS tuning before arriving at your destination will tell you what runway is the active. If you are using FS9 (You didn't stipulate which program you are using?) you can program the GPS to show you the vectors, missed approach path etc.If you are flying VFR everywhere then a military style overfly of your destination will give you time to view the runways and the one which you wish to land on but, don't upset the ATC! hehe.Regards,DaveKNT5100G www.knightair.org ASUS KT333 M/Board, Radeon9800Pro128mb, 1024DDR, ATI xp2400+CPU, 80 gb HDD
