Is anyone still making scenery objects for ADE9x?

Featured Replies

If anyone out here is still making scenery objects for ADE9x I have a couple of requests. I'm working on an idea for a fictional FS9 MCAS and I'm limited to a nice but small number of objects. I have written to Sid Schwartz (yesterday) about the possibility of more, I'm waiting to hear back and thought I'd ask here too.

Here's the short list:

MV-22 Osprey in gray

UH-1N in gray

CH-46 in gray

LCAC

LAV

AAVP-7

Another thing I think would be cool would be small formations of soldiers. There are objects that are individual people like those in John Stinstrom's collection, but putting 15-20 of them in a scenery is a frame rate killer and tedious at best. If there were ready-made blocks of platoon sized soldiers standing in formations it would make for easier scenery development. Have them in formation and then in lines to board helicopters. I would also like to see LHA’s done, I’ve made a couple by scaling the aircraft carrier in the vehicle section of ADE9x to 75% that worked out well but a real LHA with an open stern well would be better.

One last thing; I love the movie The Hurt Locker and would like to have a guy in a bomb suit. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for reading...

Could you point me to Johns soldier collection, would love to check it out.

Mike, I found it on fs.com, (the guys are actually yours if you're Michael Carr) and not John Stinstrom's, my mistake. File name there is mcdmil.zip. They're 3D and stand still while you drive around them but like I said, you get 8-10 of them and the frame rates drop. Here's a couple of early screen shots of the Monterey Bay MCAS so far.

I have completely enclosed the scenery with the 8' barbed wire fence....75' at a time. There's a 4000' runway that I can get the Super Hornet on and off of fairly easily. The main purpose of this is for helicopters though.

Photos removed - exceeded 400KB limit. Yours 954 and 884KB respectively.

Thanks for the images and the info. yes, I am that guy and those are mine, but I am familiar with Johns work and was interested in seeing what he had done which is why i asked.

Keep in mind that the reason they have such a hit on FPS was that were intended for the specific use in my scenery and not meant as actual scenery objects for others to use in their sceneries, especially any that they planed on sharing online (explained in the readme).

I read that, there's no way that any of the objects could be packaged with this project, it would just be too huge. Just the ADE9x .bgl was going into the package with what has now become a laundry list of objects required, anyone who really wants the scenery will know how to correctly install the objects from a fresh download. It's not so much that the objects are that complex, it's that my computer is pretty old. The instruction manual is in Aramaic. Seriously, it came with an "Inspected by Moses" tag in the box. But back to the scenery...I had one of the original ADE's back in 1997 and wore the disk out, really never got back into doing scenery after that (after the AOL FSRC days) until recently. This is my first real all original scenery, I really don't want to step on any toes in making it available so if I need to scrap the project it's no problem.

Sid and I were on a beta team for instant Object Studio and Airport Design Studio. If there is a message to relay I can do so, unless you have a generic e-mail for him.

J. Stinstrom and I have known each other for some time. His sailors are neat, and he also has a nice collection of vintage cars. I can do the same as above until permission is given to relay his e-mail as well.

have you tried to get into photoreal scenery? Also- multi object placing (many objects in one mdl. such as - say...... 6 houses you made all in one mdl..... when you place them with ADE or Instant Scenery they are all together as one unit. When placed they all move or rotate as one.... and placed exactly where the photoreal shows them to be. Result- computer has to look for one item not 6. Bob

JYD, Sid answered me back and he's been really coming through for me BIG TIME over the last few days. I made a few requests and he has gone far above and beyond anything I would have expected. I can't say enough about this guy and his accommodating style. I've put the MMB scenery aside for now, I may just abandon it for another project that was on the drawing board that these new objects are perfect for.

I'm not much into photo realistic scenery, but one of the objects Sid is working on for me is a photo real LHD to use with some LCAC's he found for me. My problem is this computer is maxed out already with it's graphics card and RAM, in about 3 weeks it will be replaced with a much better computer. Until then I'm sort of marking time, working on ideas and plans, learning how to do some of the things I never tried.

I've been working on testing frame rates with an ever increasing number of aircraft on the Boxer's deck, this is about the max. Sid has been working on a folded CH-53 that will replace the aft Harriers. I like using Bob Chicilo's CH-46 for deck trials but I will be repainting the USAF Pave Low soon into a Marine CH-53E Super Stallion soon.

Thos look great! Use Model converter X to minimize draw cells, and try to put as meny textures onto one sheet as possible; but I think you have probably read that stuff already. Again, great ships! Bob
