July 8, 200421 yr I'm still a little confused how scenery and mesh is treated by FS9.My informations are as follows:1) Mesh with the same LOD which overlap: the layer in scenery.cfg with the lower number has precedence.2) In addition to 1): files are sorted alphabetically A to Z within the mesh folders (for me, this means: each folder gets an entry in scenery.cfg with its own layer number); if files conflict within this same folder, the file that is read at last (Z) "wins".2) Scenery: the layer in scenery.cfg with the higher number has precedence; this is the exact opposite of how mesh is treated.First question: am I right here?Second question: How should I manage my sceneries and meshes? For payware, it's sometimes not possible for me to tell if a file is mesh or scenery data.According to what I said before, the best thing would be to collect scenery and mesh in different folders, so I could arrange them in scenery.cfg accordingly.I'm pretty sure that though I take great care of my scenery.cfg and the files and folders, I somehow have a mess here, maybe I simply didn't discover yet that I have a problem. To find this out, this would mean I'd need to fire up FS9 again and again with different settings in scenery.cfg to see if a mesh has an effect at all and if the mesh covers another one making the "underlying" mesh ineffective and invisible. The worst case I can imagine is that I purchase an add-on scenery which contains both mesh and scenery (I'm sure most of them do) while having already a mesh for a given area, install the add-on and never discover that the (maybe better) add-on mesh is never used.Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. July 9, 200421 yr Author I would say your general idea sounds right, but "scenery" is more complex than you make out.Terrain data has internal layering which will determine what overlays what. Terrain data with the same internal layer will follow the folder placement scenery rules. This includes excluding terrain. Terrain flattens, though, tend to be persistent. Object data (and object excludes) follow the folder placement rules (except autogen objects will only be drawn if the texture they are attached to are drawn, considering the terrain data priority). Airport data (and airport excludes) follow the folder placement rules.scott s..
