Autosave with PMDG products

Featured Replies

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good Autosave programs for FSX that saves the position and panel state? I'd be a tad nervous to do a fifteen hour flight in the 777 with the chances of it crashing and losing everything ha. I know saving manually works and saves both but forgetting is easy! Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers,

Luke

A paid version of FSUIPC has an autosave function which saves the PMDG panel state as well. In fact, you need to be careful with it as it can save hundreds of panel states in the folder every flight if you set it often enough. There is a way around it though which you can find on the FSUIPC forums.

Thank you for the info Marko. I checked my panelstates folder and had around 800 autosave files that I could delete.

Yes, those are the edits I was talking about.

I haven't tried the NGX since, but I added the same lines for the MD11 and those do not seem to work.

Not sure if the format of the save is different in the MD11, as my folder is still full of "AutoSave Sat 185204.FLT.0.slv.rte" and "AutoSave Sat 185204.FLT.1.rte" type saves. I probably need to adjust the Alsomanage commands slightly for these.

Worth keeping an eye on the panelstate folders nevertheless, as these can fill your FSX drive pretty quickly.

Well if you do not want to shell out, flightsim.com have an autosave program that is free in their utilities section, does the same as the FSUIPC one as both just call the save dialog so they save the same way that you normally do, just all automatic without you noticing anything.

It will clutter the folder for panelstates however, as it only cleans up its own saves so you will have to go periodically and manually clean out the PMDG panelstate folder yourself.

One caveat: when the NGX came out there were reports of stalling/stuttering from the FSUIPC autosave. That wasn't true of the other products. Not sure if that was corrected because I turned it off.

That stuttering issue is traced to PMDG's copy protection causing issues when saving, the workaround is excluding the FSX folder from the real time protection list and that will fix the issue.
