Did a dumb thing

Started a clandenstine run in the C-46 without checking the full load. Once I was in the air I noticed I only had 11% fuel on board. The co-pilot called me out on it and said we would have to devert to a field preferably without a control tower and refuel. No way I told him we were going all the way! Well, lucky for me it was a short flight from St. Paul island to St.George island. Still had to sweat it out as there is nothing but water between the islands, go figure. 16 miles out at 10,000 feet and 6% fuel remaining I leveled out and started the decent at a 50% power setting. Started a long straight in final apporach with 5% remaining in the tanks. Touched down and taxied to the unloading area and shut down and I still had 4% left. No problem.

But I did get the Pirate Mate Award for transporting 10 tons of unknown cargo without detection. Yahoo.

From this month's AOPA's Pilot (Nov. 2012): "The AOPA Air Safety Institute says fuel-related accidents continue to be six to seven percent of all accidents. In 2010 there were 85 fuel-related accidents". I am continually amazed whenever I hear about a RW fuel accident as they are so easily preventable.

Flight Sim another story as who has time for calculating fuel load? :LMAO:
