October 23, 201213 yr Ok I searched the forum and I am probably doing something wrong here. I just did a couple of flights with Opus and overall it was right on the money with the exception of visibility. I then found an aiport with 6sm vis and it still showed 48000 meter vis but all the other weather loaded correctly. Anyone know why it's not updating my vis. Thanks 3W
October 23, 201213 yr Hi, you haven't got the ignore reduced visibility option ticked by any chance? Cheers Steve
October 23, 201213 yr Commercial Member Did you have overcast conditions and do you encounter the same problem in different types of weather? Are you reading the vis off the OpusFSX Local Weather Window? Regards Cheryl
October 23, 201213 yr Author I encounter it at all different weather areas. I am getting the visibility information from the Opus pull down menu within FSX. At two different places in the US several hundreds of miles apart it has the clouds, temp etc all correct and matching real world METAR, with the exception of the visibility which is reading to 48000 meters/29 miles.
October 24, 201213 yr Commercial Member If the vis in the METARs is Cavok then the setting you have in the weather dialog will override this, so it looks like you have it set at 48000 meters.
October 24, 201213 yr Author Ok I am not sure I a m following you here. What setting do I need to have in the weather dialog box. Or are you saying I need to hand edit the visability every time I fly using FSX weather dialog box?
October 24, 201213 yr Commercial Member Just click on the default buttons in beta 2.29.1 and you are ready for RW weather. I usually disable the mist effect (which will change slightly in the next beta), and you may like to set the 'relaxed surface wind smoothing' parameters to 30 knots and 30 degrees per 32km (also the new default recommended settings). To explain the 'Max Surface Visibility Setting' a little more, I generally leave mine set to 48km, you may prefer a slightly different setting depending on many factors including how your system displays the different visibilities. Basically, when the METARs report either CAVOK, 9999, or 10SM they are reporting no significant reduced visibility in the area. Under these circumstances the LWE will set the surface visibility to be equal to your 'Max' setting above. So if you go flying and all the METARs in your area are reporting CAVOK, 9999, or 10SM then you will see the same surface visibility everywhere. On the other hand, METARs that report a different or reduced visibility setting will result in this actual reported surface vis been used. I am assuming you have not set the 'Ignore Reduced Surface Visibility' option which can override the LWE and result in quite unreal (better than actual) visibilities, some people do not like reduced visibility and hence the option is provided for them. I hope that makes things a little clearer (pun intended) for you. If at any time you are not sure about the generated weather, please consult the 'Reporting Weather Anomalies' Flight1 topic and I will be glad to import your weather and take a look. Regards Stephen
