So, the ingame FXAA looks awful due to the way the game relies on many small objects at ground level.

But the 4x SSAA Quad Render is way too taxing on the framerate.. I'd love some sort of middle-ground, even if it was low quality 2x nonsense.

 

So, is there anyway to force specific AA settings via nvidia inspector for example, without needing to resort to the full 4x SSAA Quad?

No, you're stuck with FXAA (fast) or SSAA (slow) if you want to run HDR. Unfortunately the developement of FXAA has stopped and moved over to TXAA which is unlikely to be implemented into X-Plane 10.

That's bad indeed. I can run SSAA even in NY but not with any larger airports. FXAA is quite good at night, but a dealbreaker when it comes to instruments etc., rivers and some other landscapes. It's really a pity.

Well, I stand corrected: There will be more AA options and better overall AA in the upcoming 10.20 version of X-Plane (including FXAA combined with 1x2 SSAA).
