  1. This feature was never announced for XP 10.50. It was shown as part of future developement. It's not even sure it will be a XP10 feature. My guess is rather XP11. Best Flo
  2. Thanks, will try them ASAP. Flo
  3. Yeah, I know I'm ice-cool. But...what happened to the new manipulator tech (mousewheel support among others) that was meant to go into 10.50? It's not in the release notes - or did I just miss them? Is mousewheel manip supported in the Baron yet? My system is down so I can't try myself. Flo
  4. It did. For sure. But who cares?
  5. 1. It's wise to test the beta without plugins and 3rd party scenery installed first. You would have to move that around each time you switch between beta and last stable release. 2. The installer isn't meant to work as a backup. It will do so but the results may vary. This is especially true for preferences and some other stuff that gets modified by the user. You might not get back what you once had. Betas including RCs might add up to 9, 10, 11, versions - you will likely screw up your installation in that process. 3. HD space is cheap nowadays. 20 GB for a basic XP beta install....Who cares?
  6. Do you want to tell us that X-Plane does not look like reality itself? Certainly not. So stop throwing verdicts without a vaild point of reference.
  7. Save? Never! Otherwise it wouldn'd be a beta version. beta2 is not stable and serious bugs (like all lights on) are inside. If you want to actually fly, stay away. This is probably true for some more weeks. Beta is testing, not for using.
  8. You're right. I remember the initial XP10 release very well and it took at least a year from that on until the new features were "mature" and performance began to be acceptable. It took another year (or two?) until it started to shine and yet we still see main problems (AI, ATC etc.) beeing adressed. Nonetheless it is amazing how far XP10 moved forward if you look back at the release. It's just that there is "always" so much that needs to be adressed that it never looks like a finished products. I guess that's simply the downside of Laminars approach to developement. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I'd like a well done sim that sits for a while. Maybe I'm wrong and I get my hopes too high, but my impression is that the XP developement became quite "systematic" (the whole process of building airports) and that the existing gaps might close in the next years and we'll see a more mature product during the livespan of XP11.
  9. I'll try later, not at home now. F.
  10. I did exactly that (v3 vs. default) but the difference is not very obvious. I had some new - nice - art assets but Manhatten didn't look like anything that was posted on the dev blog or seen during the presentation. Basically too "flat". Unfortunately a good amount of autogen is "still" without lit textures and so you have sometimes a rather huge area (40 clustered building) were it is pitch black at night/evening. Looks very strange. Not sure what the artists intend by that. Can't be too hard to throw in some lit textures... F.
  11. Didn't X-plane use height information before? My understanding was that there was mainly a lack of art assets to fit the demand (especially highrises / tall buildings). My guess is that the code uses approximation or workarounds to some extend to make up for missing height data. We'll see soon. What they showed on the FSC looked better than what was on the blog earlier. I think the number of art assets increased since. The pic on the developer blog had just a dozen of different objects/facades. Very repetitive. Why should the autogen update be US only? I think it was only stated that there is still no regional autogen available and everything US-style.
  12. I wonder the same. From what I know it is at least P.M., T.K., T.Y., B.S., C.S., J.G., M.?., A.?. A.F. and Austin himself. That's 10. A couple more in tech support, gateway maintenance, airport nav/data support, maybe one or two guys in the art departement. But some of them don't work full time for Laminar and some just temporarily. Flo
  13. As much as I like better graphics and immersion in a sim...I will just never wear such a thing . I'm too afraid it might fry my soul right away. Flo
  14. Not sure what you are asking here... GPU load is refering to the card's processing power and does not depend on it's memory usage. W10 might take a larger share of VRAM for itself or the W10 NVIDIA driver / newer driver handles the memory in a different way. Video cards also use the general system ram in addition to their own physical video ram, that CAN pose a problem (low FPS) but not nescessarily. As long as you don't have significantly lower FPS than before (due to VRAM shortage) I wouldn't care about this at all. Otherwise you should lower your texture resolution setting one notch, restart XP and see how it goes. Flo
  15. There is a small python script that allows to remove a percentage of the autogen (in oder to up the FPS). The roof texture and underlying textures will remain, though (in order to still have some urban feeling to it). You can set the desired percentage as you like. Go ahead and try 100% and see what happens. Can be reversed by running the very same script. I think it's available over at the .org. Search the threads. Good luck Flo
  16. SGSSAA is not natively supported by NVIDIA Drivers / CP. You need NI to hack into the driver and enable SGSSAA, which is a differend method than just SSAA. Good read: http://www.overclock.net/t/1250100/nvidia-sparse-grid-supersampling Flo Would you mind to share your complete NI settings? I'd like to gice it a go but I've no idea about the "driver bit" thing mentioned in the above linked instruction. Thanks in advance Flo
  17. Well, those question would be better off at the X-Pilot Forum. Most answers are already there... No problem with IXEG groundhandling here. Biggest problem IMHO is the poor physics of hardware toe-brakes (at least with Saitek rudder pedals): tip them and they go to full stop. Flo
  18. Well, maybe it is because we are talking about a 15 bucks game, aimed at a rather small user group. It's not an AAA title. And I would be surprised if Dovetail threw a lot of money (=manpower) into this. The website looks like a one man's one day job to me. Summing up the aswers in the Dovetail Q&A thread it's like, yeah, we're looking into it, we want to, maybe, we'd like to, certainly it would be great to have, not at the moment etc. etc. They have a lot of unfinished business...but they have bold release dates. My guess is that at least the release of Dovetail's Flightschool will only be a side-event because the product itself is not exciting at all. Things might change for D's Flightsim - but I doubt it. A few month of developement on a full blown flightsim? Heck, that's no time at all. No hard feelings - trying to be realistic (besides having no intentions at all of changing my current sim). Flo
  19. Well, to me it's more confusing than ever The "total goal" is now 12.000 where I would expect 3.000*12=36.000. In general I think that the sidebar could contain more info about donations / costs. Just two more sentences with a link to more detailed information/statistics. I myself wasn't aware of what was needed for what until recently a member started a topic on donations. And I'm on AVSIM almost every day for 4+ years now... Not saying it's your fault and not voting for agressive promotion, but right now it's VERY subtle. Best whishes and a big thank you to all staff member for keeping this site up. Flo
  20. Couldn't agree more. X-Plane ecosystem is very easy to handle. Add, delete, move folders or files and that's it for the most part. Usually done in minutes. Update is also straightforward except for losing key assignments every now and then. And if you screwed up: run the installer and it will fix it in 5 minutes. Very cool. Flo
  21. Thanks Zigarten for pushing me over the edge Flo
  22. Autogen update is due since 2+ years and eventually coming, that's great to see. But I'm a little bit concerned about the obvious recycling of just a dozen facades. Hope we will see more variation when it is in beta. Ben mentioned some performance improvements he is working on so I guess a little FPS gain even with better autogen should be within reach. I think clouds haven't changed. Looks like default to me with a "lucky" weather configuration. Free updates are really great, but you have to keep in mind the state of X-Plane when it was released (and you paid 70 bucks for it): a mess, full of bugs, bad in performance and lacking a lot of artwork. That's part of the X-Plane story too Flo
  23. This might be realistic when looking almost directly into the sun and with a lot of humidity. Otherwise it is too much washed out IMHO. Halfway between the XP original and your modded version might be better. How does it look when looking into the opposite direction? But in any case: when it comes to "realistic" opinions will vary a lot. Flo
  24. You can use the two round, adjustable overhead-lights to light up part of this area. They are not easy to adjust, though. But once set up it works well. Flo
  25. Hm, I'm not convinced this is what everybody should do. Most payware aircraft involve a lot of custom code, plugins etc. to achieve the behaviour the developers wanted to (going the way of reverse engineering). Just opening and saving in latest planemaker 10.45b will probably have results that are different from what is expected or intended. And I'm afraid threads like this (I feel, I think, I guess...) will just add to the general confusion about torque bug/fix. It might be better to ask the developers directly about what to do or not to do. If necessary they will provide updates for sure. By the way: The MU-2 was not designed by LES but by x-scenery (aka Tom Kyler). Best Flo
