  1. Right, just run the updater again and it will (again) offer to replace your edited file But save your edited file in case you want it back. Flo
  2. 6 GB RAM? Never heard of this... Not much anyway. Don't let "the size of loaded textures" fool you. It's only a PART of the actual usage of your VRAM. Total VRAM usage will be much higher, check with a GPU tool like GPU-Z. Check your RAM usage too. But maybe there is something in the scenery at LOWS that is buggy (but nothing on the LOG about that) or it's just very demanding due to good OSM coverage and a lot of mountains. Flo
  3. I'm no LOG expert either, but you might overload your system. How much RAM do you have installed? The latest versions of W2XP, combined with europe library really need a lot of RAM. Do you use the extended DSF option? Same applies to your VRAM, 1.5 GB isn't much and shortage of VRAM is a known cause for lags and stutters. You could try to disable W2XP scenery and extended DSF, reduce texture resolution one notch and see what happens. On the other hand I would expect X-Plane to pop up a warning about running out of memory. Maybe someone elso is more up to this... Flo
  4. It depends. A faster GPU won't help with things that are CPU related (mostly: objects, cars, water reflections, draw distance). But you could crank up shadows, AA, texture resolution, run a 4k screen...). You can't trade one for the other. Flo Well, even an i5 4670k, clocked to the same speed, will deliver about the same performance. Flo
  5. An i5/i7/skylake CPU wouldn't make much difference, except in your wallet: you will have to buy a new mobo, new DDR4 RAM and the CPU of course. You can easily hit the CPU-wall with X-Plane in dense areas. That won't go away anytime soon. Vulkan might be a game changer from what I've seen so far, but that's not around the corner. Here's a link to a X-Plane benchmark with different CPUs. Keep in mind that there are different clock speed at work here between i5/i7 CPUs. In practice they will run at almost the same clock speed when overclocked, so the difference between i5/i7 will be minimized. That also applies for the Skylake i7 which runs on a very high default clock speed but is more limited in overclocking. http://www.hardware.fr/articles/940-16/cpu-jeux-3d-x-plane-10-f1-2013.html Flo
  6. Is this RTH setting altering the fade ratio or does it actually increase the LOD? I'm asking because the fade ratio will obviously not "allow" to be set to more than 1.0. Otherwise you will screw up the whole thing. A higher fade ratio (>0.5) is not too bad on the FPS because it mainly makes the ghost buildings solid ones which is almost the same in terms of performance... Best you give both a try and see what happens Flo
  7. You can override the related art control. It is set to 0.5 by default. If have mine set to 0.9 which almost kills the ghost buildings but still avoids the nasty pop-up. Looks way better than the default setting IMHO. You need a lua script and the fly-with-lua plugin for that. I can't access my x-plane computer for a couple of days to look up the script. But if you know how to handle lua scripts just search the art controls for something like "terrain_fade_ratio" (best guess) and set it to 0.9 or even 1.0. Good luck Flo
  8. Adaptive vsync (1/2) is great if your system can't maintain 30 FPS ALL the time. Instead of dropping to 20 FPS (like with normal vsync) the driver automatically disables vsync and you will drop to 29 FPS, 28 FPS, 27 FPS instead...whatever your system is capable of. Of course you have tearing then, but 29 FPS with tearing is a lot better than 20 FPS without tearing IMHO. And transition between on/off is "smooth". Flo
  9. Thanks for your quick reply. I think the VRAM /RAM monitor is an excellent idea and will help to solve many performance issues. At least for those with Skymaxx v3 installed Looking forward to release day Flo
  10. Maybe we can get a screenshot of the UI to see how / if the new effects are integrated/adjustable? Looks promising, though. Best Flo
  11. Looks very good. I'm eager for this one because I don't like the most modern planes. I suggest that in "cold and dark" some controls are in a more realistic position (settings for cabin temperature, display and digits brightness etc.). AFAIK these are usually not turned down by pilots (alt least not to to zero) for parking. And it can become annoying to set these for each startup. Anyway - good luck on your way to release. Flo
  12. My guess is that this is simply "part" of the very basic AI system. AI planes start at random positions and fly just somewhere. This applies probably for "AI flying your plane" too. BUT: You are not going to watch an AI fly your plane if you can do it yourself, are you? I think ATC volume setting is only available with some planes - those that allow to adjust for COM volume. Some payware planes do that for sure. But maybe there is also a setting within the "operations" submenu. I'm not at my desk right now to check. BTW: Welcome to the X-Plane community! Best Flo
  13. A list? Here you go: 1. IXEG 737 2. - 3. - Cheers Flo
  14. Well, I would rather expect changes to the UI within 10.40 version run. This was kind of "announced" as a side-effect of the work they have done for XP10 mobile. Probably one of the "features" that are in the pipeline without beeing ready for release. Flo
  15. I'm well aware of all that. The point is that the poor utilization of multicore CPUs is simply not the (XP-) Developers fault. But we are at a point where new possibilities emerge - so things might change. BTW: Ben didn't sound too pessimistic in his comment on Vulcan and timeframes. Regarding how fast developers were able to adopt mantle and how much excitement there is about those new APIs I would say a 2-years timeframe is realistic. Could well be the bait for XP11. Flo
  16. I think that mantle/vulkan and DX12 are excatly build for that purpose, allowing to spread the CPU related graphics workload to more than one core. That wasn't possible before, at least not with a significant performance gain. Time will tell. But even then it won't be: double the cores, double the FPS. It never will. Flo
  17. The point is, that, when using x-assign, buttons get messed up often. I think it has to do with Laminar adding new commands and thus changing the ranking/order. X-assign seems to rely on a given order. This is only with buttons but having about 20 button on (e.g.) saitek yoke and throttle and having 4 different assignments for 4 different planes....you will want both: x-assign and update-save button assignments. Regards Flo
  18. I had that too, not sure what the cause is (I use x-assign too). I have a work-around that might help you too: I have all commands I use assigned to keys within XP. And I use my Saitek Software to have yoke and throttle-buttons trigger those keys. Different profiles allow customization per aircraft. That's it. Once set up it works rock solid. I guess most hardware devices come with software that would allow to do it this way. Flo
  19. Yes, it is. The CPU will be hit hard by the dense LA scenery (objects and cars) and the saab. Add the HD mesh to it and 17 FPS are what I would expect from your system. Flo PS: I doubt that the GPU is your bottleneck unless you are running a very high resolution. But lowering the AA will tell you.
  20. From my experience with major updates and given the fact that Laminar is working an a rather big update for XP10 mobile too...don't expect the betas to start within the next two months - at least. But this year is a viable expectation. Flo
  21. This looks fabulous and I think this is the direction W2XP should head for now. I'm really sorry I can't provide buildings due to a total lack of know-how and - even worse - time. Flo
  22. I doubt that using the mousewheel to control radio frequencies (or whatever) can be subject to a valid patent. The precise code - yes, but the very idea? Is there a patent on the idea to flip switches by mouseclick, to trigger a gun by mouseclick, to move the view by mouse-movement? Probably not. But yes, law often is beyond reason. Flo
  23. 1. Best for desktop: Mousewheel. Intuitive, needs almost no screenspace, fast, rock solid. 2. 2nd best: click/click and hold - with left button for (-) and right button for (+). No need to move around on already small clickspots. Flo
  24. Dear Tom, all the best for you, your family and close friends. You are an example for many of us and we all owe you for your efforts building the avsim community. I hope you will go in peace. Flo
  25. Hi Brett, this is not possible. But pop-ups are widely used - for example the new GPS which has a scaleable 2D pop-up. Some plugins allow pop-ups too (e.g. chart viewer plugin) and many aircraft designers use pop-ups for the FMS or other screens. But this different to what you have in FSX. Regards Flo
