CLOSED: Take our survey and have your say in shaping the future of flight simulation (plus there are prizes to be won!)
There certainly are a lot of options in question 51. They are all suggestions and feature requests from your fellow flight sim players. While they might not all be of interest to you, they might be to others. We have included as many of the most frequently requested items from the community in the list as we can. Now we want the community helps us decide what the priority of these features are. We know that it takes a while to do this, but what the community tells us now will help to shape our plans for DTG Flight Simulator over the next few years and beyond. - Martin

CLOSED: Take our survey and have your say in shaping the future of flight simulation (plus there are prizes to be won!)
Greetings simmers, and welcome to the Dovetail Games Flight Simulation Survey! By completing this survey, you are helping us to understand what you as a community want in a flight simulation experience. This information will help us to hone future projects, and improve how we communicate with not only our players, but the wider flight simulation community as a whole. Once you have completed the survey, you have the option of entering a draw for the chance to win one of two TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals courtesy of Thrustmaster as our way of saying thank you. Competition rules, terms, and conditions can be found here:https://fsxinsider.com/comprules We greatly appreciate you taking the time to fill our survey, and look forward to seeing you in the virtual skies! What options and settings do you want in DTG Flight Simulator? (Official Discussion)
And what exactly these "many settings" are and how exactly they are "layed out." is why we are here asking questions neumanix - Martin This is an interesting point. How do you all feel about the way things are documented in terms of settings? In an ideal world how would you like these things explained? In the GUI, in the manual? In a separate guide? - Martin This is another great point. What options and settings do people like from the various simulators available? What does each one do well? What does each one do terribly? - Martin

What options and settings do you want in DTG Flight Simulator? (Official Discussion)
And that is the big question Silicus. What should these options be? How much control should players have over the way the sim looks and plays on their PC? Some of the best selling add-ons out there like Accu-feel and ASN allow simmers very detailed control over their experience. We went for a very simple set of options in DTG Flight School, and we got lots of feedback from players saying that we didn't include enough options. - Martin

What options and settings do you want in DTG Flight Simulator? (Official Discussion)
When setting up the sim for an optimal framerate which options or tweaks do you use? What options would you like to see in a new simulator to help you achieve this? - Martin All suggestions are welcome. You are the players, you know what you want better than anyone, and we want to hear it. - Martin You raise a good point with graphic cards drivers and advance config tools like this. Do you usually set this up first, or do you set the sim up and then the graphics card? - Martin An interesting idea. So do you think there should be one slider which balances the two of these, or do you think there should be separate sliders for each? Should there be other options relating to them? Such as shadows or scenery density? Or do you think that the sim should handle that for you based on where the slider is? For example if you selected a low scenery quality it would turn off all shadows in the world for you automatically? What does everyone else think about this idea? - Martin Which ones in particular would like to see included if possible? Do you think having these controlled from within the game is better than controlling them from the graphic card configuration tool? - Martin

What options and settings do you want in DTG Flight Simulator? (Official Discussion)
Greetings virtual pilots, Welcome to the options and tweaking thread! As part of our continued effort to understand the needs of the flight simulation community we are back again with another discussion thread. This week, we want to take a deeper look at how you set up FSX, what tweaks you apply, and what elements that you would like to have control over. We know that modifying and tweaking your simulator is a key part of the hobby for some simmers. Everyone has their own personal preferences and customises their experience accordingly. For some of you, it is all about maximising your framerate. Some of you seek to improve the overall performance of your simulator. For others, the focus is being able to run as many add-ons as possible. We are eager to understand what options you require to achieve the desired effects (and what those effects are). For the upcoming Dovetail Games Flight Simulator, we are looking at ways we can streamline your experience, while giving you access to all the features and options you need to sim the way you want. Our goal is for you to spend more time flying and less time tweaking. In order to do this to best of our ability, we have a few questions we would like you to answer: What are your thoughts about tweaking and optimising your simulator? Do you see it as key part of your hobby, or do you consider it an annoyance which results from the age of FSX? Would you like to see a new flight simulator with a similar number of options as FSX, or would you prefer not to have to tweak your sim at all? What is your primary focus when your tweak your simulator? For example, have you set it up to focus on performance, graphics or load times? How have you gone about achieving this setup? What tweaks have you applied? Many players modify their FSX config files. Have you done this? What have you changed? What values are you using? What difference do these changes make to your experience? (See below for more on this) Have you modified any other files in your FSX setup? If so which ones and how have you changed them? How does this affect your setup? Are there any tweaks or modifications that you would consider standard or essential? Are there any must-read guides you would recommend we check out? What is important to you in terms of in-game settings? Are there certain settings in FSX that you use regularly? Are there any settings that you never use? Are there settings missing that you wished were included? Are there settings that you wish were different or had more options? Please note that for the moment we are only focusing on the settings found inside the core simulator. That means settings in main FSX simulator, and not settings in add-ons. Finally, it would also be a massive help to us if we could collect examples of your FSX config files. We can then compare them and see what exactly you are editing. If you have a few minutes to provide an explanation of your edits too that would be fantastic. If you would like to help us with this please email your config files to [email protected] - Martin

What do you want from an SDK in DTG Flight Simulator (Official Discussion)
Thank you Jess. There are so many modeling programs out there. Does anyone else use one that we might have missed? - Martin You Sir are a genius. Thank you. - Martin One idea that we are currently considering is taking certain key aspects of the SDK and separating them out into dedicated tools within the sim. The two areas we are thinking about to start with would be a mission creator and livery editor. This would allow anyone who has the sim to use the tools through a graphical user interface to easily create missions and liveries. These could then be shared via Steam Workshop. Over time we would look to introduce new tools and expand the content that could be shared via Workshop. What do you think of this idea? We feel that this could be a great way to get more people started with modding and creating their own content. Over the years that follow we could add to these tools, slowly building towards a comprehensive in game editor similar to the one found in Train Simulator. The editor could replace many of the third party tools needed to create UGC at the moment and vastly streamline the process. The flip side of this is it would take time to implement all of the functions in an editor system. This means that not everything is going to be in place day one. What do you all think of this idea? In the short term it would limit what content could be created in DTG Flight Simulator, in the long run it would greatly increase the scope of what could be created, and open up the process to anyone who wanted to give it a try. - Martin
