Greetings virtual pilots, Welcome to the options and tweaking thread! As part of our continued effort to understand the needs of the flight simulation community we are back again with another discussion thread. This week, we want to take a deeper look at how you set up FSX, what tweaks you apply, and what elements that you would like to have control over. We know that modifying and tweaking your simulator is a key part of the hobby for some simmers. Everyone has their own personal preferences and customises their experience accordingly. For some of you, it is all about maximising your framerate. Some of you seek to improve the overall performance of your simulator. For others, the focus is being able to run as many add-ons as possible. We are eager to understand what options you require to achieve the desired effects (and what those effects are). For the upcoming Dovetail Games Flight Simulator, we are looking at ways we can streamline your experience, while giving you access to all the features and options you need to sim the way you want. Our goal is for you to spend more time flying and less time tweaking. In order to do this to best of our ability, we have a few questions we would like you to answer: What are your thoughts about tweaking and optimising your simulator? Do you see it as key part of your hobby, or do you consider it an annoyance which results from the age of FSX? Would you like to see a new flight simulator with a similar number of options as FSX, or would you prefer not to have to tweak your sim at all? What is your primary focus when your tweak your simulator? For example, have you set it up to focus on performance, graphics or load times? How have you gone about achieving this setup? What tweaks have you applied? Many players modify their FSX config files. Have you done this? What have you changed? What values are you using? What difference do these changes make to your experience? (See below for more on this) Have you modified any other files in your FSX setup? If so which ones and how have you changed them? How does this affect your setup? Are there any tweaks or modifications that you would consider standard or essential? Are there any must-read guides you would recommend we check out? What is important to you in terms of in-game settings? Are there certain settings in FSX that you use regularly? Are there any settings that you never use? Are there settings missing that you wished were included? Are there settings that you wish were different or had more options? Please note that for the moment we are only focusing on the settings found inside the core simulator. That means settings in main FSX simulator, and not settings in add-ons. Finally, it would also be a massive help to us if we could collect examples of your FSX config files. We can then compare them and see what exactly you are editing. If you have a few minutes to provide an explanation of your edits too that would be fantastic. If you would like to help us with this please email your config files to dtgflightsim@dovetailgames.com - Martin

Some of you may already know that Dovetail Games Flight Simulator is based on an updated version of the FSX engine . As part of continued development, one of our top priorities is addressing known bugs and glitches. No one knows more about this complex simulator than you, the flight simulation community, which is why we want your help identifying these bugs and glitches so we can build a more stable simulator. When we say “bugs and glitches” what we mean are processes within FSX which do not function as they should. We do not mean features that you would like to see in a simulator. In order to tackle these bugs, we need reproduction steps from you, or a list of instructions which results in the bug or glitch occurring. For example: Click menu item A Select Aircraft B Once the game loads fly from C to D And so on Please post these along with any other information you deem useful in the comments section below. We understand that it is not always possible to communicate repo steps for every single bug or glitch. In such cases, it would be helpful if you could provide as many details as possible along with a description of what you were doing in the simulator when the error occurred. We want to thank you for being such a helpful and engaged community, and look forward to hearing from you. -DTG Flight Simulator Team

Earlier this year, we announced the development of our new flight simulator, which generated an incredible amount of excitement in the community. We would like to thank you all for the tremendous amount of interest and support we have received so far. Based on your feedback, we have been focusing on three key areas: visuals, performance and experience, all of which are instrumental to the hobby. In order to further enhance these areas, we have made the decision to postpone the release of this project. In the meantime, we expect to have a detailed development update for you in the New Year. As a team, we are incredibly excited to share what we have been up to! Until then, we hope you have a fantastic holiday season and look forward to making 2017 a great year for flight simulation. Michael MacKuen made the following announcement just before 1500 EDT today. Closest Race Ever Concludes in a Dramatic Finish over the Black Sea (Wednesday, February 19, 2014) The 2014 Round the World Race was completed on Monday night with the three teams racing over the Black Sea into Sochi's URSS. After racing for fifty eight continuous hours, the end of the race was the closest ever. Team AVSIM finished at Sochi first but was carrying thirty five minutes' more penalty time as Team FlightSim and Team Sim-Outhouse came barreling in over the sea. Everyone was watching the clock and the visual flight tracker and the clock again – while trying to estimate whether the penalty margin would be enough or not. As fsxar177 and mickj300 screeched to a stop on the floodlit tarmac we all discovered that the difference was three minutes – FlightSim was not quite able to maintain the gap. Sim-Outhouse, flying accident-free, slipped in just before Team FlightSim for second "on the ground" though they carried a slightly larger accumulated penalty and finished third overall. Mr. Murphy, the carrier of ill-fortune, visited all three teams in about equal measure; but in the end, the maladies were allocated about equally so that the race was pretty much determined in the air. The finale showed just how equal are the teams' flying, planning, and organizing talents. The Wilhelm "Wilhe" Bendit Trophy Race Finish Order and Net Race Time The finishing times, counting the net bonuses and penalties accrued during the race, are: Team AVSIM 55:51 Team FlightSim 55:54 Team Sim-Outhouse 57:25 Congratulations to the 44 pilots who participated in this year's dramatic event. Kudos all around. Additional individual awards for performance will be announced in the coming days. The Executive Committee offers our thanks to all who participated.

Hi everyone. My name is Martin and I am the Community Manager for all flight simulation projects here at Dovetail Games. It is great to see so many of you already talking about DTG Flight Simulator. With so many threads popping up here in forum it is simply not possible for me to respond to everyone and keep track of everything. To this end I have created this thread where you can talk to me and ask questions about the upcoming sim. At the moment we are working hard on developing DTG Flight Simulator, and we are not ready just yet to lift the lid on the full extent of our plans. However, we are really interested in hearing your questions and what things you would like to us to show you in the build up to launch. As soon as I can start talking about DTG Flight Simulator in detail and answering your questions then I will. I am looking forward to talking to you all again soon. If you are looking for the latest news about DTG Flight Simulator then you can find the news thread here. If you would like to just have a general chat about DTG Flight Simulator then you can find the discussion thread here - Martin
