I don't know if I've any right to post this here, but this forum is a group of very knowledgeable people.

 

I've got my system running pretty well now, with DX10, and decided to evaluate my various aircraft (I didn't realise my hangar was quite so big!!)

 

I installed an old favourite, the Carenado Mooney, and to my surprise its cockpit windows were tinted a light green. I converted its .bmp files to .dds, still tinted. I restarted the computer, started FSX in DX9 mode. Still tinted. Outside views were perfectly normal.

 

I had preordered the Just Flight X800, and found its windows tinted as for the Mooney, and in the same circumstances.

 

All my other aircraft are perfectly normal. The Mooney has now flown via several computers and upgrades, so this phenomenon is new to me.

 

Has anyone else experienced this?

 

Incidentally, when I switched from DX10 to DX9, with unchanged other settings, my FPS with the X800 went from 28-29 to 11-12!!

I now understand the X800 actually has tinted windows! I still don't know who tinted the windows of my old Mooney.

BTW, where did my apologetic post go? To make my stupidity worse, I carefully reinstalled the mooney, and, Hey Presto!, the windows became all clear!

Darn! It's totally great that the windows are now clear, Jim, but I have no idea why.. other that some slight corruption caused by a crash or a defrag sometime way in the past.. If one has never used a particular function of any pc app - until you actually use the files that DX10 calls - you won't ever know that it will work or not. This is why - at the very beginning of Steve's Patch - there is a note saying "Start up the sim in DX10 mode before applying the patch".

 

As far as the first part of your post - I'm not too sure what you actually mean here - nor the reference to an "apologetic" post..

 

... and.. last thing - You ain't stupid!! You're not alone in having things not install the way you expect - all of us here have gone through it lots of times. I accidentally shut down the major financial server of a 65,000-student college once - and nobody noticed... stupid, but with a magic horseshoe! :lol:
