October 28, 201213 yr I installed the OpusFSX demo, but it's not showing any weather. I know, sounds like a simple statement, but Id really like to get it going before I buy. However, I have a problem with Opus that I think is reflected in other weather programs Im trying. 1. Weather never changes. 2. There is no addition to "addons" menu in FSX 3. When I run the spy report, it always has only two entries: "Flight sim connected" and "Air file unknown." Opus is running on a single machine with FSX for now. There seems to be something preventing these addons from communicating with my FSX. I installed everything as per the manual: fsuipc4, simconnect and microsoft .net 2.0 Ive shared and shared and shared folders after folder, still nothing. I think if I can clear up the pipeline with Opus, itll help the others, too. So, anyone have an answer or a suggestion?
October 28, 201213 yr • Did you turn off UAC before installing? • Did you turn off your anti-virus before installing? • Are you running Opus software as administrator? • Did you make the correct settings in the control panel of Opus? • Are you starting FSX first, then starting Opus? You should see several additions to your "Addons" menu if the software is properly installed. Robert Yunque
October 28, 201213 yr Author 1. Yes 2. Yes 3. Yes 4. Yes 5. Yes I even did a reinstall, still nothing in the addons menu, nor any metars or anything being loaded in the spy window. What the heck could it be??????
October 28, 201213 yr I did the best I could (: They'll get on here and help you. Opus has good support. I just thought I would make those suggestions off the top. Robert Yunque
October 28, 201213 yr I know it is simple, but did you go into configure and point Opus to your Fsx folder? Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
October 28, 201213 yr Author Yup, did that too. Just cant seem to figure it out. For some reason, FSX just isnt letting anyone talk to it, except its own weather machine (and yes, I set the weather to user-defined). FSUIPC shows up in the addon menu, but nothing else. Thanks anyway, guys.
October 28, 201213 yr Commercial Member Not getting the addon menu means it is not installed properly. Although one other person had this problem and it was ok after a reboot. If you are already running it with administrator privileges then perhaps you could try sharing and permissions on the whole drive just to see if that works but our software would generate error messages if you don't have correct permissions or your FSX folder path is wrong. Have you got FSX installed in Program Files or a different drive, permissions are less of a problem if it is not in Program Files. Have you installed OpusFSX in c:\OpusFSX rather than a subfolder? I assume your internet connection is ok. My usual advice is ensure you have Enable Live Weather Engine checked in the Configure dialog. Ensure you have unchecked METAR File Import in the Weather dialog. If you open the spy window and force a weather update via the FSX addon menu (or click on OK in the Weather dialog) then you should see the weather being generated. Keep me informed and I am sure we will sort you out. Regards Cheryl
October 28, 201213 yr Author Hi, Cheryl. Yeah, Ive checked, double-checked, clicked, unclicked, shared, uninstalled and reinstalled and turned off everything. Even when Im on my run, I keep waiting for that "Eureka" moment that tells me what I'm missing. Will keep trying today.
October 28, 201213 yr Commercial Member Most people don't have to alter the permissions and sharing to get it working but if you do make sure you have set sharing AND permissions exactly as described in our getting started guide. If you are having a problem with other Addons talking to FSX have you tried installing FSX in a folder other than Program Files?
October 28, 201213 yr Author Permissions and everything set. I guess Im going to have to reinstall FSX in seperate folder (which means all addons, yuck). Should Opus be getting station information even if not properly installed in fSX? I noticed when I try to load a theme, spy shows "nearest station unknown."
October 28, 201213 yr Commercial Member First make sure you have set sharing and permissions for Everyone on BOTH your installed FSX drive and the FSX folder. Regards Stephen
October 28, 201213 yr Author I have set sharing and permissions from the root C: all the way down to the FSX folder.
October 28, 201213 yr Commercial Member Are you sure OpusFSX is not popping up with any error messages? 1. Check you have installed OpusFSX in its own folder and only on one drive. 2. Check and make sure you have an OpusWeather.wt file in that folder. 3. Check your sharing and security permissions on BOTH your FSX drive and FSX install folder. You must grant full access permissions to Everyone at both levels. 4. Make sure you have selected the right sim type and identified your FSX install folder correctly in the FSXSERVER program's Configure dialog. Cheryl
October 28, 201213 yr Author WOO-HOO... JUMPING FOR JOY.... Idid a clean install of FSX at the root of my c drive and VOILA, it's working. JOYFUL NOISE> I wont look a gift horse in the mouth, but I hate not to have solved the riddle of why it wasnt working in the program directory. Oh, well... now if Id just get some weather here at my home field... clear blue skies .... boring. Anyway, thanks for the help.
October 28, 201213 yr Commercial Member No problem, your system security must be protecting your program files folders. You will find some websites on our Flight1 forum to help look for bad weather. You can join the storm chasers club then. Regards Stephen
