October 29, 201213 yr Hi Guys. Could anyone tell me if there is a quick fix for the 1766 error when reinstalling FSX, I have tried the fix from Microsoft, (which is faulty anyway, should be exe not All.) to no avail. Any help would be greatfully recieved. I desperately need to get back in the cockpit. Thanks
October 29, 201213 yr I found that the best description on uninstalling FSX and reinstalling FSX is at PMDG - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx. The procedure is excellent except I would run a freeware registry cleaner like CCleaner once FSX is completely uninstalled. Then do the reinstall. Make sure UAC is disabled and any anti-virus program is temporarily disabled during the reinstall. Good luck! Best regards, jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! December 2, 201213 yr Author Hi Jim I have tried everything I can find to correct this problem, all to no avail HELP!
December 2, 201213 yr Sounds like you have deleted, or moved, a windows system directory or file. Do a system restore to a date before you had this problem. If that didn't help, restore your mirror image backup, if you have one. Saved me twice over the years. Last, reinstall Windows. Dave
December 2, 201213 yr Hi Jim I have tried everything I can find to correct this problem, all to no avail HELP! What OS are you running? Windows 7 64 bit? You might have a corrupted system file and that would be easy to check out. Click on the Start button and, in the search bar, type Run and look up in the menu and right click Run and select 'Run as Administrator'. Once open, type sfc /scannow then okay. Your system will be scanned for errors and any corrupted file will be replaced or you will be advised if the corruption cannot be fixed. If that's okay, run CCleaner again and make sure fsx has been cleaned from the system registry. Also, in that uninstall procedure program I linked you too above in my 2nd post, make sure those hidden fsx directories are deleted (such as in C:\User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX). Once your system has been 'cleaned', restart the computer. Once started, open up your Internet Explorer and go to the directory for your DVD Drive. Click on it and right click on setup.exe and select Run as Administrator. Follow installation instructions. Hope this helps! Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource!
