July 15, 200421 yr I have a problem where all the aircraft contrails are acting wierd. Each plane (including my own) seem to have two sets one acts normally, and the other curves down to the ground. (Kind of looks like a SAM coming up to each aircraft!)Has anyone seen this before? If so what is the remedy?Kim Simmelink
July 15, 200421 yr Like these ?http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...topic_id=200903Strange... thats twice in as many days - have you downloaded or installed anything new lately? Mine happened all of a sudden as well..Leo Louise London, UK
July 16, 200421 yr Absolutely! You have the problem too! The only thing that I can think of is that I installed the trial of Weather Maker Enhanced Edition. Maybe I will try and uninstall that and see what happens.Kim Simmelink
July 16, 200421 yr You'll have to restore your effects file for the contrail, I'm sorry to say. I can't recall the exact file name, but it's pretty intuitive if you search the effects folder, sort it by date, and look for a file that doesn't have a time/datestamp that closely jives with the others and has a name similar to contrail :)Why did this happen? Early in FS2004's life, some overzealous authors decided to zip up default effects files from FS2002 and thus you end up overwriting FS2004's files when you install their work.I know there's several packages that have done this, although authors in more recent releases have been more careful. One pet peeve of mine is when authors, whether payware or freeware, bundle up default gauges and effects in their packages that stand the potential of overwriting newer and updated files. This is a big no no if you want a package to be version independent.Good to see you here by the way--in the days of FS98 and FS2000, I flew some of your work and though it among the best around in those days..Regards,John
July 17, 200421 yr Thanks John for the kind words and the help. I will take care of this right away. Keep em flyin'Kim Simmelink
July 17, 200421 yr Was this the new 1.2 version of Weather Maker Enhanced Edition that you had installed?
July 18, 200421 yr John,I reinstalled the default effects files from my FS2004 disk and that fixed the problems. Thanks for the tip.Kim Simmelink
July 18, 200421 yr The problem wasn't from Weather Maker (which did make great weather!) but something (probably an aircraft) overwrote some of my effects files with 2002 ones. John had the correct solution which was to reinstall the effects files from the FS2K4 disk.Kim Simmelink
