Installation of C-5m Super Galaxy

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am attempting to install C-5M Super Galaxy plane. After installation, I don't see the files in FSX path. I have my UAC down, I turned off my virus scan, & the path I'm puting it on is Programs(x86)/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator FSX. I have Windows 7 OS, 64 bit. I have unzipped the file & have Run as Administrator, but still can't see it. I'm doing this from the disc. If I use the path on the CD, it puts it out there, but the folder is empty. When I click on the CSM_FSX icon to install I get an "AIR" file error message. I cannot contact Area 51 because my virus scan blocks it. Says there is a virus attached to that site.

Can someone help?

Thanks,

hocdaddy

Disable your AV and get in touch with Area 51 - they'll help you straight away.

There is no virus attached to their site - you're getting a false positive AV result .... just disable AV and go to their site.

"AIR" file error message

Do you happen to have the Adobe Acrobat PDF reader installed? If so, you most likely allowed an automatic update from Adobe which also installed a program named Adobe Air. Adobe Air (which happens to use the same .air file extension name) is only used by a very few websites to display their information. This is in no way related to the .air files which FS uses but it does trigger an "error" message. The Adobe Air program can be safely removed from your system and that should stop the error message. Hope that helps.

I cannot contact Area 51 because my virus scan blocks it.

I agree in part with FlyGeordie but you don't need to go to their site as it won't help you. For support, send an e-mail to [email protected]. This is the only support option available (other than posting here...). I think the solution I provided above will fix your problem and allow you to get that 'puppy' installed properly and up and flying.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks,

That took care of the "Air" message. Still can't get it to work though. I'll contact Area 51 through the link.

Thanks again,

hocdaddy.

Hi,

I finally got the C-5M Super Galaxy to install. Not sure how, but it works. I sent an email to the Area 51 link you provided on the 8th. Still haven't got a response.

Once again, Thanks.

Hope you enjoy the C-5. I got the C-17 for 2004 from Area51 and never reinstalled it as it did not work well in FSX. I also had the Alpha C-5 Galaxy that I bought from Alphasim some time ago and downloaded some sounds for it. Alphasim is no longer but I saw that Virtavia -http://www.virtavia.com/ acquisitioned that product and it is now freeware on the Virtavia freeware site. The C-5 was my favorite in FS9 and, like the C17, I tried it in FSX but for some reason there were incompatibilities so I uninstalled it. Since it's freeware, you might want to try the Alphasim version. Watching a C5 coming in for a landing is one awesome site. Having served in the military for over 20 years, I was able to fly in one a few times from Dover AFC to Europe (on Space-A for $10).

Best regards,

Jim
