High Altitude Wind Shifts Unique to Different Systems?

Featured Replies

Hi Stephen and Cheryl,

Just trying out your new beta 2.40.1

Just going over the revised manual, Im curious to know why the high altitude wind shifts are described as being IF you suffer from wind shifts. I was under the impression that this is a Core FSX bug that affects all. But you have alluded before and in the manual that my system is susceptible while your system is not, or someone elses. What is the difference from my system to yours apart from hardware that you dont suffer from wind shifts? Are we not using the same core FSX or P3D program?

I just did a test flight, without any flighplan and just let it fly at FL310 and FL350 and I had 3 with in a 90 min period. They did seem to be supressed and only time will tell the next time I fly with VAFS if I get penalized for excessive G forces. I did ensure defaults and made ensure high altitude wind smoothing is on.

Also as a side point, do you have a time frame for implementing winds aloft?

Thanks

Hi Dave

Thanks for the feedback. As you probably know it appears wind shifts are more likely at high altitudes although some people have reported it only happens to them on very long flights. Flying in certain parts of the globe seems more likely to cause problems, europe seems more stable from what we have seen. How many addons you have impacts on FSX performance and causes problems, also the PC spec, on higher performance systems you can suffer from wind shifts which are so quick that they don't effect the flight. Also the aircraft sim makes a difference.

We are currently working on winds aloft and making good progress.

Regards

Cheryl

Interesting. I don't think my system is that bad. Its an I5 2500k which I over clocked to 4.5 and water cooled. 8 GB ram and sim and OS run on an SSD drive.

Your right it happens more on longer flights like 1 hour or more. The MD-11 especially doesn't like them but I appreciate your effort to surpress them.
