IE9, no dropdown menus, post previews etc

I'm using IE9 (fully up-to-date) & I can't access the menu dropdowns and I don't get the popup previews of the posts, nor can I use the text editor (no icon bar). I must have turned off a browser feature or something. I have the latest Java and it is enabled in IE9. Do you have any advice that might resolve the issue?
