Lod bias CLAMP vs ALLOW

How?! (or just a link, please) :smile:

Get the "SweetFX" post production shaders tool - http://forums.guru3d...ad.php?t=368880

Unpack and copy ALL files into main FSX folder, in case of trouble ask or read this - http://www.guru3d.co...e_download.html

Edit settings in "SweetFX_settings.txt" file according to statement below, only enable (set to 1) LumaSharpen and Splitscreen (only for test time to see influence), disable rest of options (set to 0).

#define USE_SMAA_ANTIALIASING 0 //[0 or 1] SMAA Anti-aliasing : Smoothens jagged lines.

#define USE_LUMASHARPEN 1 //[0 or 1] LumaSharpen : Also sharpens the antialiased edges which makes them less smooth - I'm working on fixing that.

#define USE_BLOOM 0 //[0 or 1] Bloom : Makes bright lights bleed their light into their surroundings (relatively high performance cost)

#define USE_HDR 0 //[0 or 1] HDR : Not actual HDR - It just tries to mimic an HDR look (relatively high performance cost)

#define USE_TECHNICOLOR 0 //[0 or 1] TECHNICOLOR : Attempts to mimic the look of an old movie using the Technicolor three-strip color process (Techicolor Process 4)

#define USE_DPX 0 //[0 or 1] Cineon DPX : Should make the image look like it's been converted to DXP Cineon - basically it's another movie-like look similar to technicolor.

#define USE_LIFTGAMMAGAIN 0 //[0 or 1] Lift Gamma Gain : Adjust brightness and color of shadows, midtones and highlights (avoids clipping)

#define USE_TONEMAP 0 //[0 or 1] Tonemap : Adjust gamma, exposure, saturation, bleach and defog. (may cause clipping)

#define USE_VIBRANCE 0 //[0 or 1] Vibrance : Intelligently saturates (or desaturates if you use negative values) the pixels depending on their original saturation.

#define USE_CURVES 0 //[0 or 1] Curves : Contrast adjustments using S-curves.

#define USE_SEPIA 0 //[0 or 1] Sepia : Sepia tones the image.

#define USE_VIGNETTE 0 //[0 or 1] Vignette : Darkens the edges of the image to make it look more like it was shot with a camera lens. May cause banding artifacts.

#define USE_DITHER 0 //[0 or 1] Dither : Applies dithering to simulate more colors than your monitor can display. This lessens banding artifacts (mostly caused by Vignette)

#define USE_SPLITSCREEN 1 //[0 or 1] Splitscreen : Enables the before-and-after splitscreen comparison mode.

Edit also amount of sharpening setting. Use for testing purpose value 1.60, effect will be clearly seen. But this value must be properly matched with actually resolution of ground textures. Value 1.60 is good for photoscenery with resolution 1.2m or 0.6m. If you don't have any photoscenery to see result and you are using only landclass ground textures you have to use lower value - try 0.60 or less if image looks to be oversharpened. That is all.

/*-----------------------------------------------------------.

/ LumaSharpen settings /

'-----------------------------------------------------------*/

// -- Sharpening --

#define sharp_strength 1.60 // [0.10 to 3.00] Strength of the sharpening

NOTE: Sharpening photosceneries works much better with conjunction of high LOD_RADIUS setting. LOD_RADIUS=6.500000 would be good.

WARNING: it also adds some shimmering but less than negative lod bias.

Thanks for the info, Ad. I think I will give it a try too! (That splitscreen option seems great for testing!)

Gave SweetFC a try: tested various settings for an hour or so, comparing screenshots and all. It works but the sharpness introduced too much grain and that was at settings where the sharpness of the gauges was FAR less as it was with Allow and -2.000... At first the sharpness looked okay but when I started to actually fly it got in the way... I could see too much, so to speak. Even far away trees had clear pixels and that was with sharpness at 1.00. A lower setting hardly had any effect on the gauges. So in the end I disabled it all again.

Allow and -2.00 seems to only give sharpness where I want it without adding grain all over the screen. But I understand it's heavier on the system and gives shimmering. As it is now I think I like everything the way it was more for now: by default, without those enhancers, things have a slight blur with is good. You don't want to see all those pixels...

I might test some more with Allow in the future but I've already spend two evenings on tweaking while I simply wanted to FLY above England... so I'll stop here for now. ^_^

Thank you, ad. I've wanted to try out SweetFX, this will help.

Cheers,

Dirk.
