November 20, 201213 yr I just noticed something in the FSXOptions.cfg file. There are separate entries: EnableDirectWindControl = True and FSXDepictionMode = DWC Does this mean we can set EnableDirectWindControl=True while having FSXDepictionMode set to something other than DWC, like Smooth? As far as I know, there's no separate option for this, so the first would always follow the second. But if these can be uncoupled by making a manual config file entry, it would be interesting. November 21, 201213 yr Author The true or false value written to the cfg file is based on the depiction mode. That would be pretty obvious. I guess my real question is, can it be manually edited to TRUE if you're not using DWC, and will it have the desired effect? I would doubt it, but otherwise there's no reason to have two options in the file. Unless... it's for "future expansion" and we'll be able to do this in a later release. Having only one option -- instead of two that have to be the same -- is a form of "defensive coding". You know Murphy's law... if there's any chance they could get out of sync, and this will mess something up, they will get out of sync. Sometimes with the help of an inquisitive modder. November 21, 201213 yr Commercial Member In all reality the options are in the GUI. Config is written based on the user selection which you already know. Try changing it (at your own risk of course) and see what happens. I would think it checks itself to make sure everything is in sync. Regards, Dave Opper HiFi Support Manager
November 21, 201213 yr Author Try changing it (at your own risk of course) and see what happens. I would think it checks itself to make sure everything is in sync. I usually fly in DWC mode anyway. I've got a few more hours of flying in Smooth mode before I'll be able to do a comparison. Otherwise I would have tried it already. I'd assume the code checks to make sure it's in sync, but I've had similar issues bite me in my own programming enough times to learn to avoid them. Larry Hookins Larry Hookins Oh!
