November 26, 201213 yr Ok so maybe someone can clear up some confusion for me.. I enjoy flying the PMDG 737-NGX, I like to fly a real world flight plan and sometimes those flights are quite long.. I dont always want the weather to change at the destination. So what setting keeps the weather engine from going out to the internet and pulling down new weather when I get near my destination. Does OPUS download global Metars or just Metars that are close to your location ? Regards Mark
November 26, 201213 yr Commercial Member OpusFSX loads the weather initially for 300 miles so it won't work disabling updates when you start off. In any case FSX doesn't handle the weather properly if you did load all your required METARs for the total flight. I would say just let the OpusFSX weather engine look after you. You can enter your destination and 4 alternate airfields and get the weather report when you start your flight using our report (add-on menu option). Regards Cheryl
November 26, 201213 yr Hi Cheryl. I was flying from KLAS to KORD and wanted to use the OPUS weather reports window for weather info at destination and 3 other locations, KSTL, KCLE, and KMDW....I was unable to pick up the weather and got no weather info. available message even though I was within 300 or even 200 miles of locations. I did set up these alternative destination before updating OPUS weather and starting flight.
November 26, 201213 yr Commercial Member What version are you using? We have released a new version today. Check if there are any error messages in the spy window such as no GRIB data available (if you are using GRIB). The older betas downloaded a larger file which could take some time. Other than that if you are within 300 miles it will download the weather. Let me know if you still have a problem using the latest beta.
November 26, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the quick response, I was reading another post this would this procedure work for what I want ? 1. "Enable Live Weather Engine" checked, as well as "Import METAR data from file" checked uses the METARs in the bespoke text file you have created and not realtime weather. Therefore you must be close to the METAR airports in your bespoke text file - unless the file has one METAR with GLOB as the ICAO (then you can use it anywhere).
November 26, 201213 yr Commercial Member You could create your own METAR import fie with METARs along your route but it obviously won't be as detailed as the live weather updates. If you use the GLOB code for an ICAO then you can only have one in the file, this is quite handy if you want to practice in certain fixed weather conditions at any location. Regards Cheryl
November 26, 201213 yr Author Cheryl, The whole idea for me is to not have the weather engine pull down new METAR's from the internet as I fly, I tend to like to have static weather. So if I want to shoot an ILS approach in the fog when I get to KSAN, I obviously dont want it to be clear when I get there some 4 hrs later after leaving KMDW. I am new to OPUS so im just trying to get it setup how I want it. Mark
November 26, 201213 yr Commercial Member You can use live weather and then when approaching your destination switch over to METAR file import. The choice is yours, live weather, static weather, or a combination of both. Regards Cheryl A word of caution, if you intend creating a METAR import file which stretches over 100 miles FSX is likely to morph the weather so that the METARs may not be adhered to as correctly as you would wish. I would say just have a play around with it and see what happens.
