I am having a hard time getting the sim to load

Recommended Posts

So I am really growing to like the new 64 bit version, but I can only make it load if I do some extreme maneuvers, like deleteing the preferences file.

It seems to get stuck on "Will init ATC" I don't know what's going on at that part of the loading, but I don't even use XPX ATC, so can I cut that out?

Could it have something to do with this new OpenGl?

I think you may have video driver incompatibility.

Don't know if you are using latest released version but if you are then try going back to a previous version. Or maybe just re-installing current version may solve you problem.

That link is for nVidia cards, from what I can tell from you log you are using ATI.

Okay, that's weird. I am definitely using an nvidia 690, I have never even had an ATI in this machine since I last installed windows.

Hmm, that is weird then.

I searched for "atioglxx.dll" on my entire c: drive and then XP drive and did not find anything with that name. I have an nVidia card too.

Also goolgle it and from what I read it supposed to be an ATI link library.

Have you filed a bug with Laminar?

Not yet

I am starting to think the problem with with my virtual or real memory, i.e. I need more physical memory or I need to change my pagefile size, I'll try that first then, bug report.

Okay quick follow-up I upped my pagefile to the recommended 12GB and it seems to be okay, several sim re-starts without any crashes, and a whole lot of twiddling with the rendering settings.

I figure it probably a newly minted 64 bit app on a machine with 8gb of ram and two 2 GB Vram GPUS, this whole mess was giving me this:

EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (C0000005)

Virtual Mem Free: -428548096, Malloc'ed Mem: 84691772, Largest Contig Block: 2146578432

which seemed like a memory address space issue. Hope it stays that way.
