OpusFSX 2.60 and MGX HGS

Featured Replies

I just purchased the 2.60 version today and installed according to the get started single pc guide. I did not get a screen capture of it; however, the HGS in the PMDG 737NGX was rendered unusable. I have enable live camera control turned off; however, my viewpoint in the cockpit was such that the HGS was too small to fit the displayed information in it. As such I could only read part of the display. I attempted to zoom but that did not improve the situation. Is it possible that I missed a step in the get started guide or is this a new issue I am having?

Move the camera and fiddle with zoom. You'll find a position that works eventually

Are you referring to the FSX camera or the OpusFSX camera settings? If you are referring to the FSX camera I already attempted that as I said in my opening post. I have been using FSX for four years and the NGX since the first week it came out. That was my very first corrective action. As I said in my first post zooming did nothing. If you own the NGX you know moving the camera does not help. As I said the HGS was too small to display the information, it spilled over the edges. If you are referring to OpusFSX, the Camera option is grayed out and cannot be selected since I have that turned off.

Hi Edward

If you have Live Camera disabled then OpusFSX does not do anything to effect your views.

On the other hand if you want to try Live Camera then we have supplied some dafault 737 views which will be enabled as soon as you enable Live Camera, if you currently use EZCA then just use their utility to tidy the config files before using OpusFSX.

Try turning it on. You want cameras on so you can use dhm.

No, I really do not at this point and time; that is why I have it turned off.

Hello Cheryl, I see that you are correct. When I first started OpusFSX I still had the camera function turned on. I shut it off but did not restart FSX which was also running at that time. I believe that I may have found a small problem you and your husband may want to explore. When I started FSX with the camera function already turned off, from the night before, the focal point problem was not present. Here is the problem in screen shots as I feel that my descriptions are not doing explaining it very well.

Here is the problem at 0.65 zoom:

Here is the problem at 0.90 zoom:

As you see the text in the display does not change even though I am moving closer to the HGS.

Cheryl, if I want to enable the camera how do you think I can resolve this problem so that I can properly see through the HGS? Currently I am using the hat switch on a Saitek yoke which is set to the default FSX settings.

Edward Smoker Sr.

Why don't you just turn it on and try for yourself? Most of is have resolved the HGS issue by playing around with the camera and zoom settings

Sigh -_-

Cheryl already solved the problem. I bought this as a weather engine not a movable camera. Telling someone to do something they do not want to does not help. Although I suspect you were trying to be helpful you did not particularly come across that way. After the first time you suggested I turn it on and I said no, you should have respected my wishes and stopped trying to tell me to "just turn it on". Respect others wishes first, that is a good rule to living a happy life.

I had problems with HGS and so I used the camera option to solve my problem. I am only suggesting what works for me. Took me 5 seconds to solve my issue using this method.

Regardless, I am happy Cheryl has solved your problem

Yes, you said that many, many times. At least as many times as I said no. At that point you should have stopped or offered another suggestion.

Edward Smoker Sr.

. At that point you should have stopped or offered another suggestion.

I'm insulted. What do you think I am? A paid service? I can only offer advice for what works for ME. Which I did. If you do not want to take my advice fine, I am glad you have heeded the advice of Cheryl.

This is the last time I'm offering assistance to others on the board. Some individuals here think they are so righteous and entitled.

Get this straight Edward - I do not need to offer you any assistance, I was merely suggesting as I have said many times WHAT WORKS FOR ME.

Now I didn't mean to come off like an &@($* in my earlier post if it sounded like so. I am just frustrated that you genuinely try and help people and they are hostile in response.

Good luck in life Edward. I certainly hope you dont treat people like this in the real world.

Yes, I do treat people just this way. In return, when I inform someone "I do not want to try that." I expect them to respect me and not keep saying "Try it, try it." This is exactly how I treat people. When they say "Ed, I do not want to do that." I say "Okay, let's try it from a different angle." Instead you have spent this entire conversation telling me to do the same thing over and over ad nauseum. Honestly I do not care if you are insulted. You repeated yourself time and time again despite my repeated statement that I do not want to use the service. The service in this instance being the camera. Please, before you feign insult read your repeated attempts telling me to do something I told you I did not want to do. Afterwards if you still feel insulted that I declined your repetitive suggestions then so be it.

This is what you call help? When I was a kid we called this being a broken record. This conversation between us is done.

I'm glad at least we agree on one thing. You're now in my permanent ignore list.

Hi Edward

Looking at your images it appears to me that the text size in the HGS is actually changing, but of course this is displayed by the sim and the PMDG software and looks OK to me. I use the 737NGX and have included my CAM file with my views defined in the OpusFSX install. I must say I have not encountered any problems in setting up my VC views, I simply adjusted them to position the eyepoint so the text was centrally displayed, I think I used a zoom setting of 0.5 for both my captain and first officer positions. There is of course a known bug in FSX that can shift the eyepoint to one side slightly when you reload a flight and move to a different location. I must admit I haven't found any cure for this so I have eneded up creating my flights and saving them for specific locations, then the eyepoint seems quite stable. Of course if you manually adjust the zoom then you must also manually reset it unless you change to a different camera view. This is due to the fact that it is impossible for software to determine your current zoom setting inside the simulator.

I hope this helps or clarifies a few things. Good luck with your flying.

Best regards

Stephen

Thank you, Stephen, for that explanation. That does make sense. Your wife was correct in pointing out that I had made a mistake on my end. When I returned to check the problem it was resolved just as she said it should be. I have not taken a look at the live camera feature as my focus and primary reason for purchasing OpusFSX was the improved weather engine. I have been watching the development of the program for a while now. As a tubeliner pilot, that term gives me a chuckle every time, I was eagerly awaiting the winds aloft being added. However, I digress. As I said, thank you for the explanation.
