December 2, 201213 yr Anyone else have EA's Origin digital game service installed? If so you may have gotten access to the beta update that integrates twitch.tv game streaming into the client. I heard about this last month but didn't opt in to the beta and now Origin auto-updated and I have it. I had actually created a twitch.tv account (free) a few weeks ago intending to start streaming flights but it was a lot of work to get all the streaming tools set up and I just didn't feel like putting that much effort into it. Now, Origin has made it absolutely painless. You simply Manually add FSX to your game library Allow Origin's InGame service to run with manually-added games Connect your twitch.tv account Set up streaming settings (resolution, frame rate and quality) Start FSX, go to the InGame menu and click the Broadcast button I tried it out for a few minutes just to see if it would work and I was able to watch my own feed on my twitch.tv channel. Planning to do a full flight tomorrow and see how stability is as well as frame rate impact. Anyone else play around with this too? Drew Sikora Staff Blog Founder/Designer, MSE Airports
December 2, 201213 yr Have not played with it, but does sound interesting. What kind of quality do you get? Is it full video, or just periodic snapshots? - Aaron
December 2, 201213 yr Author I had an opportunity to try it out tonight and broadcasted for well over an hour as I struggled to get my new CeraSim Bell 222 started up going through the checklists. It was quite the cluster let me tell you Way different than the Dodosim 206 of course, which is the only helicopter I'm used to. I took the Cera 222B around NYC with ManhattanX on full density, as well as road, ship and ferry traffic (water at mid2x) and I captured it all at 1280x1024 (down from my 1680x1050 full res) at 20fps at mid-level image quality. I was able to fly around, land successfully on the Intrepid and Downtown heliport. Everything seemed nice and smooth, no large stutters or jerks in performance during the video capture. Helicopter Total Realism rated my landing on the Intrepid as Rough and at Downtown heliport as Good. Flying a helicopter around such dense scenery and doing it well is my ultimate benchmark of performance, so I was pleased with the results! @slait - to answer you directly, the quality depends on how powerful a rig you have (CPU + RAM not graphics) and yes it's full video Unfortunately at this time twitch is still evaluating the use of the SDK Origin uses to connect and doesn't archive broadcasts for later playback. But they might allow this soon. Drew Sikora Staff Blog Founder/Designer, MSE Airports
December 9, 201213 yr Author So has anyone else tried this? The next time I loaded up FSX and attempted to broadcast I got a MSVC++ Runtime error and FSX shut down. I set up everything like I had (that I could remember) the way it was during my first broadcast flight and still crashed FSX. I wonder if something changed on Origin's side? Once I see that the service is out of beta I will try again but in the meantime anyone else have this problem? Drew Sikora Staff Blog Founder/Designer, MSE Airports
