JB 777 Panel

Featured Replies

Wow. Is this a beauty. BUT, I have two problems that I can't explain or fix.

1. When opening to a cold & dark state, then clicking on the battery & avionics switches, the panel comes to life. I should mention also that my default AC (not the POSKY 777) has been configured to a cold & dark state with all the autopilot readouts at "000", and saved as my default flight that way. When loading the default AC and bringing the panel to life, all the autopilot readouts show "000" as previously set. But not when loading the POSKY 777 with the JB 777 panel. See attached picture.

Notice the IAS readout shows "200" and the altitude readout shows "10000". This is from a cold & dark state.I have checked the AC cfg file and can find no entries in the autopilot section that would have these numbers for loading of the panel. Remember, my default AC autopilot settings are all at "000".

2. The included FMC works just fine with one exception. I can not activate the cursor to make info entry changes. An FSX flight plan has been loaded. I click on a selected LSK but the cursor does not appear in the scratch pad area. Doesn't make any difference what LSK function I'm trying to change, no cursor appears.

Hope someone who is using this great panel can help me with some advice.

Thanks

Chris

Chris,

Regarding your first question, I'm not sure why this is a problem. You almost always have to change the speed and altitude settings anyway.

Regarding the second, the cursor is activated by clicking in the lower left dark vertical strip on the FMC, approximately lined up with the number 1 on the keypad. It should light up with "kbd." However I have had a problem that typing in the scratchpad produces double entries, for ATL it enters AATTLL . Perhaps you won't have this problem. Also, sometimes it enters one letter followed by a space, and then reverts to double letters. I haven't used it very much lately, but if you have similar problems you can just use the keypad. Since new entries are limited to FSX built-in waypoints, I don't add new waypoints much, and use an external program such as FS Commander or FSNavigator (running in FS9) to create the flightplan including SIDs & STARs (for FSNavigator I transferred the flightplan to the proper folder in FSX).

Hope this is of some help.

Mike

Hi Mike:

Thanks for your response.

Regarding item #1. Yes, I do change the settings anyway on the AP (have to!). I'm just curious as to why my default AC loads from a cold & dark state with all "000" showing and the 777 panel won't. It is not an operational problem, just something for which I can't explain. I failed to mention that it also happens on an Embraer 170 panel, but just those two.

Item 2. I did click on that area on the FMC and the letters "KBD" showed, but still no white cursor appeared in the scratch pad. The LNAV & VNAV functions work just fine. This is just one of those things that drives you nuts trying to figure out why something doesn't happened that is explained in the manual that is supposed to happen.

Thanks

Yes, I know the feeling very well! Just was trying to figure out why I get double letter entries, and I found that it happens in the VC but not in the 2D cockpit. Maybe yours will work if you are flying in VC and go to 2D or visa versa. Clearly there is some programming issue, but this is still among the best freeware panels I've ever seen.

If you are interested, I changed the numbers in the FMC gauge to give more realistic takeoff Vspeeds for the -200LR, and can send them to you. It's not hard to change the entries.

Mike

Chris,

Again I don't know if this is any help, but I just fixed the problem of double letter entries by removing the entry that pastes a second copy of the FMC into the VC panel (in addition to the popup). At least it appears fixed for now. So maybe this could be affecting your FMC as well (even if you are not using the VC).

Hi Mike:

Sure, please send me any info changes you have for the FMC. I don't have the VC. I principally fly with 2 panels on my AC's but if an AC comes with a VC, I keep it. I don't recall (short memory anyway) that the POSKY 777 model incorporated a 2D panel. Correct me if I'm wrong. If I am correct, how did you come across a VC panel? I do notice that the panel cfg does have entries for a VC, but I just loaded the 777 with the JB panel and I do not have a visible VC. Just wondering if I ever replaced the original model file with a replacement from the POSKY site.

Yes, I completely agree with you that some programming glitch (file or folder) is interfering with the operation of the cursor, but I have no idea what it is. I even went so far as to re-download the panel and did a new installation of it in the 777, but to no avail. I have a hunch it may come down to a fresh install of FSX to rid me of the bug, but I'm not about to go that route for the lack of a cursor.

Thanks

Yes, this panel (and VC) is great !!

To make the scratchpad of the FMC work:

1) add the following entry to the dll.Xml (in same folder as fsx.cfg)

<Launch.Addon>

<Name>jb777 fmc</Name>

<Disabled>False</Disabled>

<Path>Modules\jb777_fmc.dll</Path>

<DllStartName>module_init</DllStartName>

<DllStopName>module_deinit</DllStopName>

</Launch.Addon>

2) Copy the 2 modules jb777_fmc.dll, jb777loader.dll from the

aircraft's modules folder to the FSX/Modules folder

Those information are given in the readme file of the original panel

jb777panel_rel_1_032.zip in the avsim library.

Good luck !
