Plan G as a Moving Map for IFR Jets

Featured Replies

For the last two weeks I have been using the gorgeous VFR program Plan G as a moving map for my PMDG 737 and Milviz F-15 flights. I think Plan G has the best looking map I have been able to find. Since it is a VFR program, I use FSBuild to plan my flights. I fly IFR profiles. After I run FSBuild, I copy the middle part of the flight plan to the clipboard. My most recent flight from KSFO to KPDX shows KSFO CUIT3.RBL J126 OED.MOXEE6 KPDX. So I copy RBL J126 OED. Open Plan G and press the Quick Plan button. It looks like a capital D with an arrow through it. Similar to a direct button. Enter departure airport ICAO: KSFO Destination ICAO: KPDX In the route box paste RBL J126 OED. As long as nothing turns red you are good to go. Plan G will display your route. When you are ready to taxi, connect your plane by pressing the Connect button in Plan G. This works best with two monitors. The program will follow you as you fly and you will have a beautiful map of your route. Remember this is just for your enjoyment is is not as precise as a program like Aivlasoft EFB, which I love. Normally I would use their program, but they have not moved over to Prepar3d yet. I hope they do soon. Maybe the Plan G team will make an IFR program someday. Enjoy.

I realise that you posted this a long time ago Ed, but I have just seen Plan G in action during a meeting of my local flight sim group and it looks very impressive and easy to use. I am just wondering if anyone knows if the Plan G team have done an IFR version yet or are planning to do so?
