Extended terrain textures...

Featured Replies

I'm trying to extend terrain textures, but I cant figure out how to do this. I searched the forum and I tried so many things, but nothing helps... Now it looks like thisTERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=0.000000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=0.000000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1242456no matter what I change, it doesn't work, still exactly the same distance in fs. It looks really annoying in FS, especially when I'm flying FL250+I know that this is the correct file, coz when I delete it, new fs9.cfg is created.Any ideas?Thank YouJackMy Specs:Athlon64 3400+ATI Radeon 9800XT1GB Corsair 3200LLPT

open up the cfg file and find these lines, change them toTERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=3 or greaterthen go fly and see if it's better.Hornit

Is there a reason the slider in the Scenery Settings dialog doesn't do what you want?

Thanks,I tried it, and it still didn't work. That's the problem, no matter what I put there:TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=it's always the same:-( Jack

actually all the sliders in the fs settings are working. I want to change those three lines in fs9.cfgTERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=and no matter what I put there, it's always the same.Jack

Both TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS and TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS have a range of between 2.5 and 4.0 and TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS has a range of 0 to 4 (integers). Keep that in mind when changing these values.

>Both TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS and TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS have>a range of between 2.5 and 4.0 and TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS has>a range of 0 to 4 (integers). Keep that in mind when changing>these values.Incorrect, the max value (that will actually have any effect)for each is:TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.999999TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.999999TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4

It is editable, and I'm editing correct fs9.cfg not the txt.Jack

You can put whatever value in the CFG file that you want but the FS code caps them to the values I listed when it reads them in.

>You can put whatever value in the CFG file that you want but>the FS code caps them to the values I listed when it reads>them in.This has ben tested quite extensivly, and I can asure you that the values you have listed as "capped" are in error.I posted to you the correct max values.I was part of the extesive testing of this area of the fs.config a couple of years back when these values were first used by the FS D3D engine as it has a direct impact on image quality of the terrain textures before filtering and remain the same for the latest version, if you desire to see the impact of these changes it helps to have slite negative LOD values as well as high aniso (4x/8x) enabled at video card driver level.

>It is editable, and I'm editing correct fs9.cfg not the txt.>>>JackHi Jack,Just to check, FS9 is not running while you save the changes to the FS9.cfg file right? Also, can you verify what folder the cfg file is in that you are editing?
