Peculiar problem with SCEL ILS info in Map. Help!

Featured Replies

Hello Gang!I went ahead and installed the wonderful SCEL (Santiago Chile Intl.) airport scenery by Cesar Carrasco available here in Avsim; I also installed the AFCAD file made for it by Lars Arngart, also available here in the library. Whenever I press the Map function in a flight around this airport, the map shows that the airport has an ILS on runway 17, which is correct. Whenever I double click the airport in the map to get the ILS frequency, the data box shows all the airport frequencies and corresponding airport info., and where runway 17 is listed, no ILS frequency appears listed on the right. The correct frequency for this ILS is 110.3 (which I know by heart), and if you tune it on your NAV radio, it works well, so the simulator recognizes that there is an active ILS there, but the frequency does not show in the map data info box. How can I add this info. in the Map function? I tried modifying the AFCAD file, but the ILS info. is already there, so I know it is not an AFCAD file issue. Thanks for any help!Sincerely,Dennis D. Mullert

Sincerely,

Dennis D. Müllert

"How can I add this info. in the Map function? What I mean is, is there a chance that the ILS was missing from the original FS9 database and was added with AFCAD? If that is true, then I seem to remember that NAVAIDs added with AFCAD do not appear in the map view data box.I feel compelled to ask; Why do you care? If it works right and you know the frequency isn't that what matters? R-

Hi Ron!The reason I care is that if for some reason I forget the frequency in a future flight, and I bring this up to look up the frequency and can't find it for landing (in bad weather), things are gonna get ugly - fast.Sincerely,Dennis D. Mullert

I am almost sure Ron is correct Dennis. The information available in the FS map window is limited to that provided by FS itself, this is certainly true for other NAVAIDS so I don't think runways and ILS would be any different. There is a little 'gotcha' however as you have found out.If you install 3rd party scenery for an airport you can tune into any of the radio sources provided by that scenery, you just can't see the details in map view becasue that database is not easily updated. Two solutions spring to mind.Get FSNav or a similar utlitiy that can be updated with data from http://www.navdata.at/ then you will always have current radio aids and ILS details and can see them from FSNav.Or note down the ILS frequencies if they are mentioned in the scenery readme file and keep them somewhere safe for reference.
