August 1, 200421 yr Hope this is the correct forum as I don't see dx posts in others.I attempted to download install dx 9.0c from Microsoft's website, and I got the error message titled "Software Installation... The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP..." ; the installation stops.I discovered (to my chagrin) that I was still running 9.0a (not 9.0b). I have an older system: P-IV 1.8, 512, nVidia TNT2.Do I need to install 9.0b first or do I have some other problem? If another problem, suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
August 1, 200421 yr You should be able to click on something that allows you to install anyway. Whenever I get that notification I always have the option toeither continue or to abort the install. I am not sure why it is saying that with DX9C but usually it is ok to procede.Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
August 1, 200421 yr Thanks for responding!Unfortunately, I am not given that option. When I click "OK" to the error message, I get a second message "DirectX Setup... DirectX did not copy a required file." When I click OK to that message, the installtion program goes to "Installation End" page with the message "Installation failed." When I click "Finish," the installation window closes.I know I could communicate with MS on this, but I guess I was hoping someone at AVSIM could get me through this quicker. Don't know if you or anyone else has other suggestions.
August 1, 200421 yr Make sure you have "Cryptographic services" running in your Services.It will not let you install otherwise.XP Home SP1Asus P4P800-SE Intel 3.0GHZDDR 400 D/C 2x512MBGeForce FX 5700 256MB (56.72)SB AudigyMSFF2 & X45 throttleSee you in the fence...CYYZ Al Stiff
August 1, 200421 yr Yup! That did it. I must have disabled this at some point, though I can't remember doing it. I fear this might be an precursor to "senior moment!"Much appreciated!
August 1, 200421 yr Have you tried downloading and saving to disk then running the install offline?Dave

August 1, 200421 yr I was getting the exact same problem. I'm going to reboot and try it now.:)I'll post right back here :)
August 1, 200421 yr That's normally how I install, but, unless I'm missing something (entirely possible) there are 2 parts to this- 1) the initial download is a program called "dxwebsetup"; when I ran this, it downloads whatever I need to update dx. I didn't see how to get around this.
August 1, 200421 yr Look around the Direct X website for the words "redistributable". This is the entire package (around 30meg) and does not require internet connection to install. The "redistributable" copy is for developers to include in their CD's. I always download that one, because should I have to reinstall, I don't want to go to the website each time to do it.
August 3, 200421 yr >Where can I find Services in XP sp1?>>Thanks run msconfig - this will bring up Services, Startup ,etc etc.Dave
August 3, 200421 yr Author Right click 'My Computer', select 'Manage' and you should see 'Services and Applications' at the bottom of the list. Expand same and there you are :)Mike
