water showing wind direction?

Featured Replies

I think I remember reading something quite awhile ago about some freeware water textures that were released that somehow showed wind effect on the water. For example the water would actually look like wind was coming from the direction the wind was actually coming from.Does anyone know anything about this? I would like to now give this a try with FS2004 but I don't know if this stuff is still around. Thanks very much!

I believe the textures you are talking about do not change to the wind, but you can select a set to match the wind.....confused yet? lolThe ones you are thinking about are here at Avsim:http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=13842This allows you a choice of different types of waves (size) and from which of the four compass (north, east, south, west) they come from. I think these are the ones you are thinking of. If there IS a texture set out there that adjusts to the wind....PLEASE LET ME KNOW! :)Harry

So depending on where you are flying you have to load the appropriate compass point files?

Yes.....I'm afraid it takes a little work ! :)Harry

Try using the program OceanFX 2 by Johan de Vries, I think it's in the Avsim library. It makes selecting the water effects and wind direction very simple for those water textures, instead of having to copy and paste a bunch of stuff to your FS9 folder.-Scott

Great program, but I get these white tiles when panning. I am running an Athlon 2800,Ati 9700 Pro 128 and 1 gig of ram.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/86529.jpg
