VC Panel Editing Tutorials
Thanks Don, it makes sense now! I was hoping to modify the Carenado C206 panel to add the Malibu's G500 gauge, but it looks like the C206 uses the second method of gauge placement (side by side and stacked tight) so I'm outta luck. But that's alright; now at least I know how to do this sort of thing. Thanks again! -Scott

VC Panel Editing Tutorials
Cool, thanks for the replies fellas. So to back up, I know how to edit 2D panels easily enough by swapping out gauges using FS Panel Developer. How would I then swap or add gauges on a flat VC panel surface? Which files to I have to edit, and what basically has to be done? Thanks for the help! Cheers, Scott

VC Panel Editing Tutorials
Hi all, I'd like to learn how to edit VC panels; i.e. add RXP 430/530 to them and whatnot. I've done some searching but haven't come up with any good tutorials on how to do this, so if someone could point me in the right direction I'd very much appreciate it! Also, is FS Panel Studio required for doing this sort of thing? Thanks, Scott

Pilots Wanted! - Career Research Paper
Hey Howard, I'd be happy to help you out. I haven't gotten into the airline game so far (I fly a Cessna 206 doing aerial mapping for a living, and previously worked as a flight instructor), but I'd be willing to provide what insight I have, for what it's worth :) Feel free to send me an email at [email protected]. Best SSD for Caching
Hi all,I'm building a new rig and plan on using an SRT setup for hard drive caching. Trying to figure out which SSD I should go with to give me the best performance.Should I go with the Intel 311 Series 20GB? This one was developed by Intel specifically for use with SRT, and is one of the few that uses SLC NAND memory (which is supposed to be faster and longer-lasting than the MLC NAND used by most SSDs). However, I don't even see this drive listed on Newegg anymore (although it is on Amazon and elsewhere), and a larger-capacity drive (say, 40 or 60GB) would result in fewer files being booted out of the cache after non-use, correct? Cheers,Scott

550W PSU - Enough Juice?

550W PSU - Enough Juice?
Hi All,I'm doing a major overhaul of my current FSX rig and wondering if I need to upgrade my PSU as well. Currently, I have a 550W Ultra X2 modular power supply and it hasn't given me any problems in 4 years of use.My current rig:Core2 Duo E6750 OC'd @3.2 GHz, Abit IP35 Pro mobo, 4GB DDR2 PC6400 RAM, eVGA GTX 470 1280MB GPU, 2x 250GB WD hdds in RAID-0, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU CoolerMy proposed new rig:i5 2500K OC'd (hopefully) to 4.5-5.0GHz, Asus P8P67 Pro mobo, 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM, eVGA GTX 470 1280MB GPU, Hitachi 2TB 7200RPM HDD, XIGMATEK LOKI SD963 92mm HYPRO Bearing CPU CoolerSo my proposed new computer would use a more power-hungry processor (95w for the 2500K vs 65w for the E6750), but I would only have one HDD instead of two, so there would be some power savings there. I'd imagine the other components would draw about the same amount of power. What are your thoughts?Cheers,Scott

Not Unable to Comply?
Hi all,I'm new to Radar Contact, just got it yesterday. During my first flight, everything was going smoothly until ATC started vectoring me towards the airport. Approach cleared me down to 5000 from current altitude of 7000, but there was mountainous terrain around 5000 so I pressed "6", which is supposed to be the unable to comply key, as selected by default in the key mappings. Instead, pressing 6 caused me to ask for a freq change to get ATIS! I've verified that my 6 key is assigned to "unable to comply", without any shifts or ctrls. What was I doing wrong? And is there a terrain database that I can download to prevent ATC from vectoring me into mountains? Otherwise, the program is pretty cool and much more realistic than default ATC. Thanks!-Scott

"Virtual memory too low" error. Argh.
Hey thanks fellas, after applying this fix I was able to go on a nice little flight in Orbx PNW with the Carenado 185, with no errors or hickups of any sort! This should definitely tide me over until I can build a new rig with Win7 64.Cheers,Scott

"Virtual memory too low" error. Argh.
Hi all,Lately I've been getting a CTD error where FSX closes and an error pops up stating that FSX has run out of available memory and will now exit, and I should try lower graphics settings. The thing is, when this error pops up I'm usually not even experiencing low framerates, stutters, tree spikes, etc to indicate that my system is being taxed. I have 4GB of RAM and running Windows7 32 bit. Any fixes for this? Thanks,Scott

Ms Flight new photos
This one?: http://www.x-plane.com/images/v10/scenery/week3/night.jpgI think that version 10 of X-Plane is finally going to give MS Flight a real run for it's money. This is a good thing though; hopefully it'll add that element of competition that will make Flight even better. Before my last post I hadn't read the updated MS Flight news page with its great Q&A (see the Avsim thread about it here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/320515-news-page-updated/) It looks like these shots are very early development; much earlier than the first released FSX development shots were. I'm sure that there are still lots of improvements to be made!cmpbellsjc, judging by your screen name it looks like you're from Campbell or San Jose? I just moved down to the south bay a few months ago, got a job flying aerial photography out of Reid Hillview airport. It's a great area to live!-Scott

Ms Flight new photos
I agree with Eric, the thing that struck me most about the first shot was how distracting the reflecting streams were. Don't get me wrong; I think they're a good idea, but these stand out waaay too much. These would just be little creeks in real life, mostly hidden by vegetation, etc. In shot #5, they look like big, fat rivers running vertically down the sides of the distant mountains. My advise to the MS Flight developers would be to make the stream texture more narrow, and possibly intersperse the alpha channel with small areas of opacity to simulate vegetation cover, rocks in the stream, etc. In their present form, I wouldn't be really happy with MSF until someone made a third party stream patch.I do, however, really like the new cliff textures. It looks like the shore textures are much improved as well, and I'm not seeing any of the big, ugly FS2002 style wave effects that have been kept for the past 2 versions. One thing that I'd really like to see in MSF is the type of realistic lighting that's being implemented in X-Plane 10:http://www.x-plane.com/images/v10/scenery/week3/airport_night.jpghttp://www.x-plane.com/images/v10/scenery/week3/airport_with_fuel_depot_night.jpghttp://www.x-plane.com/images/v10/scenery/week3/night2.jpgIf you can do this, I'm sold!-Scott

Best way to improve GA traffic?
Thanks for the replies! It looks to me like MyTrafficX has the features I'm looking for, but the aircraft textures seem to be of low quality compared to UT2 (for both GA and airlines).Ultimate Traffic 2 appears to use all default GA aircraft, which must be killer on framerates. BUT it has the little utility that, apparently, allows you to add/modify the aircraft used for AI, so I could try swapping in some low poly models...Which leads me to my next question: Is anybody using the HTAI Cessna package with FSX? Are the models compatible (props showing up correctly, etc)? Bummer that the Piper package was never released, the project looks dead in the water since the last update was back in '06... Any thoughts?-Scott

Best way to improve GA traffic?
Looking for the best way to improve GA traffic. Ultimate Traffic and My Traffic both claim to improve GA, but the product websites don't show any shots of the GA traffic. Do they use their own GA aircraft models or just add more flight plans for the default ones? I'm also aware of Ultimate GA, but it seems to be long on corporate aircraft and short on the light pistons that you'd normally find at your local airport. Seems like there could be a strong niche for a good, comprehensive GA traffic package :( Until then, what should I use?-Scott

Flight Pro Sim?! Has anyone heard of this?
I just found this website: http://www.flightprosim.com/A civil flight sim that I've never heard of before. My "shady" alarms are howling like there's no tomorrow; I find the fact that they spell it "Air Craft" particularly worrying. Does anyone know what the heck this is??-Scott A
