August 3, 200421 yr Ok Got a new Computer Dell Dimension 8400 3.4 P4 , 1 gig of sddr Ram or whatever No computer whiz. 128 meg graphix card ATI. And all the fixings with XP PRO Old COmputer 1.6 p4 with 512 of ram nvidia 5200fx card. And regular stuff with a puter like that. One Problem. FS9 works with the old but not with the new. Every dang time it gives me some sort of error. 1 error is it says something about swap file and low memory. Other then that it will just stop installing and locks up my system. I've tried installing it directly after registering my new computer without adding or changing anything. Any Help would be greatly appreciated and you can see that this a disaster in the making. lol
August 3, 200421 yr If I were you, I'd reformat and install XP from scratch. And also using the latest drivers (bios, video, NSS etc.) from the Dell website. It certainly shouldn't happen with a new computer. Do you have antivirus/adaware?
August 3, 200421 yr Yes I have Norton 2004 installed but I disabled it before starting the install. I cannot really think of any good reason why other then bad disks. I just installed Lock On and that works fine.
August 3, 200421 yr Hi,To me it seems one of two things are wrong: Either you have run out of disk space on your system partition, or the swap file setting is way too low. For a 1GB system, you should have a 1.5GB swap file.If this is a pre-installed version of XP, it may be that you have more than 1 partition and that the system/boot partition (or where ever the swap file is) is too small. Just open 'My Computer' and you can see your partitions. To find out where your swap file is located, right-click 'My Computer', select 'Properties'. Click 'Advanced', then 'Settings' under the 'Performance' headings. Click 'Advanced' in the new dialog box. Under 'Virtual Memory' you can see how big the swap file is. If it's not at least 1.5GB, you'll need to change that by clicking 'Change'. Here you can set how big a swap file, you want on which partition. Please note that your problems may caused by other things, so if you do have a large enough swap file, we need to look at something else.HTHSven Sorensen, EKCH
August 3, 200421 yr Memory / Swap file errors in FS are not always related to the memory or the swapfile. They can be related to some installed scenery problems, if you do a search on this forum you will find many, many posts on this very subject.Dan.
