December 25, 201213 yr Question regarding flying over areas with overcast conditions. Is there a way to program an overcast layer below? Flying out of IAD tonight and the WX on the ground was perfect. At about 3000ft it changed to scattered/broken below with a metar 200 overcast. Just curious. Justin
December 28, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi Justin When you are within the overcast conditions it will appear overcast but when you are above it FSX has never been able to render vertical visibility so it just assumes the current horizontal visibility extends all the way to the ground. Regards Cheryl
December 30, 201213 yr Author Thank you! One more question. At what altitude will the OVC metar be active. For instance if the weather is 1/2sm bkn002 ovc007 RVR 22r1200v2500. At what distance/altitude should I be in these conditions (with the destination input on the weather config page) Love your product! Justin
December 30, 201213 yr Commercial Member It will be overcast at 700 feet AGL. The point you enter the overcast conditions depends where you are in the weather cell and where and how many other METAR stations are nearby, so it is not possible to give an exact answer but you can go on a rough guide of 10 miles from the METAR station.
