December 30, 201213 yr Author It is common for processes to run at the start up or post start up of the OS and then shut down. The main issue would be items that are programed to start back up every so often. One example would be an anti virus program checking for updates. There are many others of course, some necessary, others just amount to resource hogs. One way you might notice this - While flying FS9, say at high altitude, where the weather is basically unchanging, you are just sitting and watching not changing views or doing anything and the frame rates drop for no apparent reason and then return to the previous state after a minute or two or three. That is something starting and running in the background. As far as your two graphics card choices, I'm not familiar with either, I would expect the GT525M to be a better choice, but I don't really know. Do remember that it is absolutely imperative to remove all traces of the corresponding driver if you change. I would figure that the Intel is the native hardware built into/onto the motherboard and the drivers installed by Dell then those should NOT be removed. CPU-Z and GPU-Z just allow you to view what is normal for the way things are set up on your PC and what effect different settings are having. Mel Thanks for your reply I will def look in to the processes but again game booster should shutdown anything unnecessary, but I guess it could also be causing issues. I always remove traces of previous graphic drivers, [well NVIDIA, I never update my Intel drivers, I never use it, as the NVIDIA is my default] Everything looks normal through CPUZ Here is a comparison of my Intel 3000HD and GT525M Via GPUZ http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/n82ey/ GT525M Dedicated http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/757UA/ Intel 3000HD Integrated Also, Curiosity When running FS9, Does setting higher priority matter via task manager? and should I set my affinity to one core or all?
December 30, 201213 yr Author Sorry for the double post, but how can I set FS9 to one core, and use that core ONLY for FS9, with a program compatible with W7 64BIT, I have tried two apps, but both have failed, Here are my addons as of now Shochwave Lights Zinertek World Env REX @ Medium Settings ENB Ground Environment Zinertek Night Env @ Seattle with Default Cessna 172, I get 10FPS in VC! O_O ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :((( ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :(( Dell Diagnostics says everything is fine with my laptop, except the battery part I mentioned. :::: :(((((( Hmm, Although NVIDIA is set as my default, FS9 Display settings only list my integrated graphics card[intel 3000HD] Which is strange, it use to be intel, I checked through device manager to make sure the GT525M is enabled and everything is fine, and I found nothing wrong.
December 31, 201213 yr Author Again, Sorry for tripple post, just more info: Cancel the 10fps thing above I just followed NickN guide and I swear he is an absolute miracle worker, with fsx, his tweaks gave me a huge boost, and now another boost. But, thats only with General Aviation Aircraft, Still lets say, Ifly, QualityWings, PMDG, Low FPS, It had no FPS impacts, but FS9 looks fabulous [with a few addons] Still not to good performance Always below 20 Update: Windows XP Compatibility helps *I have PC Performance Toolkit, would setting it to high performance help? It basically makes windows 7 look like Windows 98! I will do a disk defrag & Repair in hope of that boosting performance
December 31, 201213 yr I have used Nick's guide for quite some time and find it a huge help also. As far as affinity on a multi-core processor I think it is best to allow FS9 to run on core0 (1) which is what it will do any way since it was designed for one core only. Assign the other FS related items you will have running with FS9 to the other cores. Since you are running W7 64 bit with 6Gb of RAM have you made FS9.exe large address aware to allow FS9 to take full advantage of of your available RAM? Is the Intel on board graphics card listed in the device manager? If it is, make sure it is disabled. I'm wondering if both the Intel and the GT525M might both be running ---- just a long shot. FS9 should find the GT525M and use it if it is the only one running. After you check the device manager you might wish to make a back up of the FS9.cfg file, then remove the original and force FS9 to create a new one (FS9 will do that on the next start up). You can check then to see if the GT525M is correctly listed. If not, something is amiss and may be the root of your problem. An after thought; You may have to disable the Intel 300HD in the BIOS if that option is listed there anywhere. As a example, I have a on the motherboard built in stereo system and a Creative sound card. The Creative card is listed in the device manager but the on board sound is not and has to be enabled or disable in the BIOS. If FS9 is indeed using the Intel 300HD then that may certainly be your performance problem, although, again, I'm not at all familiar with the Intel specs except what I see in the link you provided and that it appears to be sub par compared to the GT525M. Mel Thanks for your reply I cannot disable my Intel 3000HD because my onboard intel graphics is also my display adapter, so my resolution if disabled goes to 1024X768 Max I am not aware of what you mean by large address, so that could be helpful it seems that only 500-800mb of ram is used when FS9 is running, The GT525M and Intel always run in the same time, due to optimus which switches between graphics card depending whether you are using demanding tasks or not. But my GT525M is my default GPU, selected through NVIDIA control panel. The GT525M is the high performance GPU onboard my laptop whereas the Intel is the integrated and weaker, so no matter what, Im positive the GT525M is the option. I dont think I can disable it through the BIOS. I am currently performing a defrag in hope of performance improvements Is their an app for selecting a core and reserving it, I find it annoying, how I will have to set the affinity for everything each time I run FS9. So Core 0 on task manager is best? I followed this for a while, does it actually do anything? This gives me a huge boost, also when, setting most killer processes to use all cores but core 0 Update: I am starting to think my Anti-virus is interfering, access is denied to make any changes to its affinity, auto update, or it in general, always access denied. It is also restrictive with a few more things, I have Kasperky Pure 2.0 Thanks for your help Mel, you've been most helpful and extremely patient
December 31, 201213 yr Author Is this the large adfess aware you were talking about? http://www.techpower...ad.php?t=112556 This looks like it can really help with performance, including my issues with Planetside 2 -Just installed it, minor performance boosts I also made a check on my av, no interference with fs9 Regarding Intel only showing up, I will uninstall my graphics driver, remove every trace and reinstall it, hopefully the NVIDIA will show up.
January 2, 201313 yr his the large adfess aware you were talking about? It isn't really the issue of how much RAM FS9 is using as such, it is about how much RAM FS9 thinks it will use. As an example FS9 does not OOM when it actually reaches the 2Gb limit, it OOMs when it "predicts" its RAM use may approach that limit. As CPU and RAM resources are approaching a maxed out level, frame rates suffer and texture display quality are throttled back by FS9 - blurred. Anything at all that contributes to the use of available resources is in play. The method is was referring to is to use "Explorer Suite" http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php You open FS9.exe with CFF Explorer, once opened, you click on and roll out "Nt Headers" on the opened bit you will find "File Header", click on that and it will open on window in the work area with 7 items listed, at the bottom of that list is "characteristics" and to the right of that in a blue area the words "Click here" click on that and it will open a small separate window called Characteristics. The 8th item down reads "App can handle >2gb addressest" put a check in the box next to that and save. From that point on FS9 will be permanently "large address aware", able to make use of more the 2Gb of ram. This will also apply to most older programs (exe's) that were limited to 2Gb or less. Sorry, I'm not familiar with Kapersky, although I would be rather surprised if you can't open the Kapersky UI and make some test alterations to the set up. Regards, Mel
