December 29, 201213 yr Hi, I recently reinstalled FS9, after becoming fed up with FSX... But, the performance is disappointing! Here is an example @Dubai Airport, Fly Tampa, Legacy not even rebooted or updated, with the Ifly 737, and Real Environment [Conditions are great, barely a cloud], I get 16-20fps on exterior, 12 fps on 2d panel, and around 5 on virtual cockpit, This is basically like FSX! FSX, I would get, at Dubai, Rebooted, with the PMDG 737NGX Around 10FPS in VC, 12 in 2D, 20 In exterior.. Here are my specs I7-2630QM @2GHZ 6Gigs of Ram NVIDIA GT525M, Overclocked as follows: Core: 740 Shader: 1480 Memory: 1100 I have attempted to set FS9 to using 1 core, and that core, being for FS9 ALONE, but that has minor effects. I also have game booster installed. I am updated to SP1. I have no registry issues or anything related. My Anti-virus causes no interference with the sim. I dont know if this might help or could be a minor issue, but I am also using a Saitek Yoke. Any help is appreciated,
December 29, 201213 yr Given that FS9 is CPU dependent and will only use one core regardless of anything you do I would say that your performance is about right. The limiting factor I see in your specs is a relatively slow CPU clock speed of 2GHz, try moving your sliders to the left. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.

December 29, 201213 yr This is probably a worthless suggestion, but does Turbo only work when the laptop is plugged into a wall socket? If you can access your BIOS on that laptop, it should have a setting to turn Turbo on or off. Make sure that it's activated. My laptop is plugged in 24/7 lol, I will try to check it through the BIOS again, but Now, Update* Turbo still does not show through the BIOS, I don't understand, This is worth noting, my laptop has minor issues relating plugged in not charging causing performance drops, but I doubt them as major since I can still run BF3, Skyrim, etc easily, Major Edit: Dell Bios [Well my laptop mainly] = Barely any options, so :( No freedom over that Any methods to overclock would be nice :: :( Or explanations to why my tubo boost never goes on I tried a test of running FS9, Skyrim, & Minecraft at the same time, all maxed Turbo boost does not do activate It also says energy saver Battery is on high performance
December 29, 201213 yr For overclocking, I am unsure and worried, when it comes to my processor, for the graphics card, Then why do it? I don't, for the simple reason that I am not technically qualified to do so and I also believe that if the manufacturer really wanted a processor to run at higher speeds etc then they would produce it that way. You may be causing problems that you have no idea of. David
December 29, 201213 yr What operating system? Try going into power settings via the operating system. There is usually one in Windows to stop all power savings to the CPU. Make sure it's set to run at full power. You should have a setting in the BIOS. It may be in a sub menu and not be easy to see at first. Look again in the BIOS and try the setting in Windows if that's what you are using. Hope this helps. Bob

Bob No Bios settings, extremely limited, checked three times I am on W7 64bit Since I am using game booster, as soon as I turn it on, all settings are to high performance. I downloaded this in hope of overclocking to 2.50-2.90 which is safe since that is the turbo http://www.techpowerup.com/systool/ Is this safe and does it work?Update, its been last updated in 2007 O_O So I am unsure, any similar applications are great, [for cpu] I use MSI aft for GPU
December 29, 201213 yr I would suggest returning to the basics first. Unclock the GPU etc. You may be creating more of a power demand than can be handled by the supply. Double check what services are running and what is loaded and started on boot up. Then work forward towards you current set up from there. The I7 and your GPU should handle FS9 a little better, as you say. BTW Dell BIOS = typical for them. How do you figure Turbo is working or not faulty, if as you say' "it never goes on"? Also exactly what effect is game booster having - for sure? These may actually be part of the source of your problem. If you can't overclock via the BIOS I would never try it at all. Regards, Mel Quick update: Get / install CPUZ and GPUZ so you can see what is actually going on with your system. CPU-Z http://www.cpuid.com...ares/cpu-z.html GPU-Z http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ By it never goes on, I mean it dosent activate, I have the turbo monitor, it is always @ 2GHZ By unlock my GPU, Do you mean for the voltage control? My GPU seems fine, and it dosent seem like it has any problems.. It performs normally, is usually cool, and at a near idle temperature, Exactly what am I supposed to check on CPU-Z? Here is info on my system: http://valid.canardpc.com/2632787 Also, if you did not notice above, my laptop is plugged in not charging due to a loose, well, the power, umm, where you plug in the charger and a failed battery that I am to lazy to change or repair anything, since I cant live without my laptop lol, and since I hope to buy a new laptop within a year. I just attempted a flight with FS9, Ifly 737, REX, the fps keeps skipping, never steady, always between 15-30 in exterior in the air, ground 15-20, vc, 5-13, 2d, 8-20Fps I have tried changing the FPS limit through FS9, between 24, 50 and unlimited, but still
December 29, 201213 yr My $0.02: - Before launching FS9, look at your power options the performance plan you've selected (the battery icon in the status bar). Leave it in High Performance. - Go to Control Panel>Power Options>High Performance>Change plan settings>Change advanced power settings. Go where it says Processor power management, then to Maximum processor state and make sure is 100%. Do it for both battery and plugged in. For my laptop, I actually set it to 99%, so that Turbo Boost would not kick on and thus, I could sim with no heat worries. Hope this helps. December 29, 201213 yr Author Again! Thanks but gamebooster is always at 100% top gaming plan... Here is a screenshot of everything http://imageshack.us/f/690/screenshotlrj.png/
December 30, 201213 yr I meant set your graphics card over clocking back to the factory defaults. Regardless of where your computer receives its initial power from, be battery, wall outlet or whatever, that power has to be distributed to power all on board hardware. If the demand nears or exceeds what can be distributed then some hardware may not perform as expected. For instance, by overclocking the graphics card you are requiring it to use more power. So as Luis says making sure you have enough power available is crucial and avoiding reaching the wattage limit of your power (supply) is important. CPU-Z will allow you to see what the actual performance levels of your CPU, RAM and GPU are and the internal hardware settings are including what voltages are being used. One last thought I should share is that the driver you are using for the graphics card and FS9 may not be getting along well. It is well documented that FS9 will run great on some drivers and poorly on others. Mel P.S. I just had a look at your screen shot and notice from the task manager image that you have 88 processes running at the time. How many processes are running normally as soon as you boot up and the operating system is finished loading? If even half are loaded a start up that is a lot.
December 30, 201213 yr Author When I boot, it says 80 are running! But if I count the processes listed, I count around 20... Would You recommend I use my GT525M or Intel 3000HD for FS9, considering the driver compatibility I understand what CPU-Z is but how do I actually know if something is out of the ordinary, Im not very good with this
December 30, 201213 yr It is common for processes to run at the start up or post start up of the OS and then shut down. The main issue would be items that are programed to start back up every so often. One example would be an anti virus program checking for updates. There are many others of course, some necessary, others just amount to resource hogs. One way you might notice this - While flying FS9, say at high altitude, where the weather is basically unchanging, you are just sitting and watching not changing views or doing anything and the frame rates drop for no apparent reason and then return to the previous state after a minute or two or three. That is something starting and running in the background. As far as your two graphics card choices, I'm not familiar with either, I would expect the GT525M to be a better choice, but I don't really know. Do remember that it is absolutely imperative to remove all traces of the corresponding driver if you change. I would figure that the Intel is the native hardware built into/onto the motherboard and the drivers installed by Dell then those should NOT be removed. CPU-Z and GPU-Z just allow you to view what is normal for the way things are set up on your PC and what effect different settings are having. Mel
