DX10 Newbie Questions.

Featured Replies

I want to go to DX10 (or atleast try it out) and I have some Q

1) For me to revert back to DX9, all I have to do is replace the files in folder ShadersHLSL in FSX and then delete the two folders (Shaders and Shaders10). Is that correct? This is my most important survival Q.

2) Without installing any of the DX10 fix yet, I just tried DX10 and I get a peculiar performance hit...and also these blue square tiles that appears and dissappears all over the terrain and in aircrafts

8349562825_8f2f6a49d7_b.jpg

Would that issue go away?

3) I I have the nvidia driver 306.xx I don't want to change it to 310 yet.... Is that ok?

4) I have updated the inspector to the latest and have backed up my settings, and also backed up the entire folder where the xml and dll.xml etc resides. Not exactly sure what gets changed here for me to back this up in the first place. But the how to manual said I should back this up... and the restore instruction has no say on this folder. So I am pussled

5) The AA is a big issue... When I select the AA within the APP, it takes a big hit.,... not sure how much I can get back with the new suggested inspector settings.

6) I have UTII with lots aircraft textures from the AI world added to it... Not sure if this is going to create problem for that.

Any help here would be appreciated

Most, if not all of those issue will go away, Manny.

1). Shaders is the cache folder only used by MS DirectX3D, version DX9, and Shaders10 is only used by DX10.

Deleting either will result in them being re-created next time FSX starts,

2). The bluue squares will go away with the latest shader patch, v3.2.2. bkg.bmp is placed in the FSX root, replacing the blue one.

3). All is good. 310 works fine, too. I see no difference.

4). Just a shotgun approach, Manny. Neither xml gets touched with the patch. Maybe I'll take it out of the doc later today.

5). The only one which may cause any hit would be using 8xSGSS. Here's my current stuff: I see you have a pretty "warm" pc, and you could move the proc even higher to match the gpu, so you will have good headroom.

6). I use MTX54b and have no issues with Burkhard's textures, so I couldn't advise you on AI world textures, but it's likely we will see a fix for textures soon.

Once you've got it up and running with your own imagination at work, give us a shgout back here, posting your fsx.cfg as an attachment, like "Manny_fsx.txt", along with you NI settings.

Hi Paul.

OK..I did it.. Installed it

Modified the Inspector settings to 4xS amd 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling.

I have the AA and turned on in fsx

So I have the AA issue pretty much taken care off. But I noticed that I lost the approach lights ..I see black spot rabbit..leading to the runway or in Kai tak..just grey textures and no runway lights. (Fly Tampa). I now read many of my aerosofts airports would not work... Hmm...

But the big issue is..where I was locked at 29FPS is now 14-15fps and sometimes going to single digit

BTW..What was the benefit of going to DX10 in the first place? I notice it helps in OOM... so that is a big plus.. Apart from that..what are the benefits of DX10?

Manny

PS: Now without uninstalling the DX10 can I use DX9 by unselcting DX10 in FSX?

Yep ,it will then use the DX9 shaders. You won't have to do anything more.

If you want to bring the DX10 Shaders back to MS default, then just copy back your (backed-up) ShadersHLSL folder, delete the Shaders10 cache folder, then untick the Preview thingy in FSX, or simply make "D3D10=1" into a "D3D10=0" in the fsx.cfg.

The issue you are having - frame rate drop - is only because you haven't done any work or testing to get the much higher performance most of "us DX10'ers" are getting. You haven't had the time to.

Fly Tampa's latest work is all compatible, as are FSDT's. I have the Princess Juliana - Netherlands Altillies - St. Barts, which is not compatible also, but ...take a peep... It's coming, Manny. These pics are an early version of the converter - the water is far too light - sliver at night, but the grey boxes are all gone: similarly with MAM-Sim's KRDG, which you may have. You don't have to jump in at this time, and that's only a bit of personal preference - not everyone wants the agro! But I just want to lret you know that Steve is working hard at finishing the FSX-DX10 development on his own, and is being successful.

All the Best, mate,

Thanks Paul.

Then I'll leave the DX10 upgrade as is... Now I can go back to FS9 by deselecting FS10 within FSX and then select it back to do so more tweeking.. Once I get the DX10 FPS back to the FS9 level then I can stay in DX10 mode for I consumes less memory and seems to solve the OOM curse.

BTW..I don't have the AA issue..that was encouraging.

Good Man! Would you send me your config so I can take a boo at it?

Yeah - if you're happy with the AA, you're more than half-way there. It was the water that got me.

All the Best.

Hi Paul...

It has improved a bit.. FPS is now almost in par with my DX9 version... But the lag for texture loading is not that great..get the black boxes and aircraft goes black for a second or two

My UT lights are back after copying the enclosed halo.bmp. But the new halo.bmp are blog lights not the star lights I had.. I need to figure out how to convert those lights to twinkling starlight. I tried copying over the old bmp to the hew DX10 halo.bmp but its not working. Minor issue

The water is gray during dusk, and during day time, I think I have lost the water waves/white frothing... Maybe I need to update it with REX DX10 textures again.

Anyway here are my main settings in my fsx.cfg
